I remember when I was at a friends house down in Florida and I was surrounded by all these gorgeous Floridians with their fit bodies. I didn’t even strip down to my swimsuit because I was so embarrassed of what was underneath my clothes. 🙈
After four years of nights like the pic in the left, full of JMU partying, late night Cookout or pizza, and you add that to no exercise routine after high school sports ended, then you have a girl who wasn’t truly taking care of herself. I was so unhappy with the skin I was in. I constantly thought people were judging me for being a overweight.🙈🙈🙈
Here’s a real soul crusher... I actually used to think I was single because of the weight I had to lose.😞
It’s absolutely crazy and horrific the lies and negative self talk we stir up in our heads. That, just because we look a certain way, people are judging us, we can’t be comfortable in our own skin, we’ll always be single,.....🙅🏼♀️🙅🏼♀️🙅🏼♀️
We have got to stop hating ourselves. We have to talk life into our bodies, not negativity.💞
We’ve got to start being kind to bodies. I HIGHLY recommend starting a fitness routine if you don’t have one. Challenging yourself physically, doesn’t just change your waistline, it changes the thoughts you think about yourself. When you finish a workout, you start thinking I can instead of I can’t. You start believing in yourself. You start getting your mind right and trust me, it gets so much better from there.❤️
I’m getting things ready for my next bootcamp. If you relate to this at all, I want you in this bootcamp. It will change your life. It changed mine. 💕
I love you and remember to be kind to yourself. 💜
For the #waybackWednesday challenge of #RUGivingDay , I want to honor my recent trip to India to help with the International Leadership Exchange graduate course. This was one of the most monumental experiences of my life, and I am eternally grateful to @rutgersu and @rutgersspaa for this opportunity. .

First I wanna thank God who is the head of my life 😂 but foreal I’m grateful that God placed you in my life. You’re so amazing & you’ve shown me things about myself I never knew were there - good and bad. We’ve stuck with each other through everything - even miles apart for most of our courtship my flower ALWAYS bloom you everyday @marcuscstubbs 🌼 bc you water me with love, you tend to me with care. Like I’ve always said “who made you” bc I have to love then too for crafting you so well. I’m still in awe, lost for words...
Thank you for everyone who was apart of March 16, 2018. All those who’ve rooted us in through our relationship, the prayers & support. #BlackLovePage#BlackLove#SoonToBeMarried#purpose#GodLed#family#Stubbs#ThatsMyManForever#NoGoalsJustGod#WeBomb#MelaninOn1000#MyRingThough#GradStudents (My God daughter spanked Marcus for making me cry lol she loves him though).
When I first started posting workout pics online I was self conscious. Not just for the normal reasons like: how do I look...am I doing the move right etc. etc.?....but for the very real criticism scientists face anytime they step out and do something different. “Will people think I spend too much time online and not on my research?” #truthbomb 🤔
Posting fitness online was my own personal motivation. And I found out from fellow #gradstudents it was motivating them too. So why stop there. When I started this account it was just food and then the odd workout pic. But the truth is my struggle was balancing all of that with a research career. So of course it made sense to show that side of me too. The DMs I get by grad students/researchers saying I motivate them has all been worth it.
K. So let’s go back. 10 years ago (😱) I started grad school and my goal was to work as hard as possible and GTFO ASAP. And yeah I worked. I worked a lot. I had no hobbies. Labin it until 3 am...writing until 5 am...it happened. But I also gained a lot........of lbs. $2 Gino’s 🍕 is largely to blame. Playing the role of a 👩🏾🍳, 🏃🏾♀️, or 🏋🏾♀️ ALWAYS took a back seat to my role as 👩🏾🔬. I was not happy.
One day I had enough. I was writing my thesis, about to turn 30 and needed to change. So I worked out and posted it online and became an #instagramer .
Being part of the #socialmedia world has been a rewarding experience. Since then I have managed accounts for a tech startup, a scicomm startup that I started with a colleague, and for my university research office. -
So I was a bit disappointed to see one the few science publishers that I personally subscribe to (@sciencemagazine) publish an opinion piece criticizing #womeninscience who #doitforthegram - so to speak.
As I read the article it brought up a lot of things that I would like to address.
