Walked down from our guesthouse to the beach to see the infamous plane wreck, expecting it to be quite crowded. It was a beautiful walk into the sunset over the sea and I was basically alone at the isolated aeroplane for the dusk, then walked back seeing the moon over the mountains.
Buubbles Hotel, Iceland. A 1.5 hour drive from Reykjavík you will find the experience of sleeping among the snow covered forest, with nothing but stars above, to be unforgettable at the very least. With a bit of luck, a Northern Lights show will entertain as you lay cozy and warm in your double bed. The hotel has 9 bubbles as well as a communal kitchen with shower/restroom structure. Everything was comfortable, clean, sufficient, and well planned. The hotel offers a “Golden Circle” tour in route to the bubbles which is without a doubt the way to go. Transportation is Via current model Large SUV. The Driver/Tour Guide was a very knowledgeable local (Olafur). who aided in negotiating traffic and skipping long lines. This is a one night experience and not where you want to be for your entire stay. The restaurant images are from the stop for breakfast on the morning of departure. There are no food or beverage services on site. Note: bring a few snacks and water or wine/Champagne. I would not recommend this to be your first or last night of your visit as there is a chance of road closures or delays due to weather. www.buubble.com #travel#adventure#wanderlust#luxury#escape#hotels#finedinning#hotelreviews#vacation#holiday#adventuretravel#macrhenomad#nomad#restaurantreviews#nightlife#jetset#drone#droning#getaway#greathotels#bubblehotel#hotelbubbles#goldencircletour
Well this is today’s photo of our trip to Iceland. Why a photo of a little cafe you might ask??... well, after setting off at the crack of dawn to visit Geysir, Gullfoss falls and the secret lagoon, the weather took a spectacular turn for the worse whilst we were driving through the mountains, blowing snow at us at 50mph causing complete white outs until eventually we hit a snow dune that we couldn’t see and completely lost all control of the car. Thankfully we came to a stop and by sheer luck we were still on the road. We realised that driving had become impossible and had no option but to get the car off the road as much as possible and ride out the storm! At this point I’m thinking that’s it, we’re gonna die!!! 45 minutes later we were joined by a fab American couple, Frank & Emily, who had set out to do the same as us and we all sat huddled in our car. Eventually we realised we had to get out of there as by this point all roads behind and in front were now closed and the weather was still as wild as ever! So we set sale in convoy on the most perilous journey of my life, clutching the side of the car for dear life as we slipped along the road with virtually no visibility at all. Thinking we’d be fine once we hit the main south coast road we continued onwards but as it happened that road was also closed due to the high winds, snow and zero visibility. And so we were left with no choice but to sit in this beautiful little cafe, with amazingly generous owners who offered us free food and drink! And who said we could come home with them tonight if we needed to 😊#iceland#goldencircletour#whataday#sogladtogetbackinonepiece#neverunderestimatethepowerofthestorm
3rd day in Iceland- finally going on the Golden Circle Tour! The weather turned out so gorgeous and every place we visited was just..speechless! Our tour guide, Thora (yes, female version of Thor), was so awesome and recommended the best spots for viewing. She also said taking pictures is good, but she wanted us to see everything with our own eyes, not through the lenses. Everyone must visit Iceland once in their lifetime!!
