Heat Map of 1,058,383 Basketball Shots from NCAA Games. By Max Woolf.
Data Source: Sportsradar data from the new BigQuery dataset
Tool: R/ggplot2 (Basketball court implementation via Ewen Gallic)
Shot behavior is symmetric across both x and mostly-y dimentions (it would be weird if it wasn't)
In the 3pt zone, the center and the corners have higher shots attempts than the other areas.
There are more attempts/dunk approaches on the right side of the basket than the left.

Today is a momentous day, one I have waited over two years for. Today is the day that I have officially finished my dissertation.
My idea originated from a desire to talk about a passion of mine: film. All I needed was an idea, which at the time was difficult since this is an incredibly niche topic for a Geography degree. When Moonlight was announced as Best Picture in 2017 I realised that I could easily write my dissertation on the representation of sexuality and gender in film. It was an idea that was warmly greeted by my lecturers and enthusiastically received. It was ambitious to say the least, but I toiled away.
On February 26th I realised that my idea was too ambitious and lacking focus. The Weinstein scandal that was revealed was on my mind and I felt it was an injustice to merely include the efforts of women as an afterthought, a footnote. So 2 weeks before due date I scrapped all of my work. It was a bold (some say foolish) decision, but one I believed necessary. Able to address a timely and important topic, and provide greater focus for my dissertation, I am proud that I’m just 3 weeks I have been able to produce a piece of work I am proud of and one of significance.
No one, to my knowledge, has written a geography dissertation on film, so it’s an exciting and frightening thought to hand it in. Two years of my life was spent on this, hopefully it was worth it.
⬇️🇦🇿Weird exclave(s) in Azerbaijan
The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic(Azerbaijani: Naxçıvan Muxtar Respublikası, ناخجیوان موختار جومهوریتی) is a landlocked exclaveof the Republic of Azerbaijan. The region covers 5,500 km2 (2,100 sq mi) with a population of 410,000, bordering Armenia (length of frontier 221 km [137 mi]) to the east and north, Iran(179 km [111 mi]) to the south and west, and Turkey (only 8 km [5.0 mi]) to the northwest
The area that is now Nakhchivan became part of the Safavid dynasty of Iran in the 16th century. In 1828, after the last Russo-Persian War and the Treaty of Turkmenchay, the Nakhchivan Khanatepassed from Iranian into Imperial Russianpossession. After the 1917 February Revolution, Nakhchivan and its surrounding region were under the authority of the Special Transcaucasian Committee of the Russian Provisional Governmentand subsequently of the short-lived Transcaucasian Democratic Federative Republic. When the TDFR was dissolved in May 1918, Nakhchivan, Nagorno-Karabakh, Zangezur (today the Armenian province of Syunik), and Qazakhwere heavily contested between the newly formed and short-lived states of the Democratic Republic of Armenia (DRA) and the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR). In June 1918, the region came under Ottoman occupation. Under the terms of the Armistice of Mudros, the Ottomans agreed to pull their troops out of the Transcaucasus to make way for British occupation at the close of the First World War. In July 1920, the Bolsheviks occupied the region and on July 28, declared the Nakhchivan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic with "close ties" to the Azerbaijan SSR, beginning seventy years of Soviet rule. In January 1990 Nakhchivan declared independence from the USSR to protest against the suppression of the national movement in Azerbaijan, and became the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic within the newly independent Republic of Azerbaijan a year later.

Witam! A jak u Was mija weekend? Produktywny czy leniwie😋?
Crossing the North American Continental Divide at 11,990 feet. Feeling fortunate the sun came out for sweeping 360 degree views across the Colorado Rockies and that Loveland Pass reopened hours earlier so we could drive through a wonderland of freshly fallen snow. Loveland Pass is the 5th highest pass of the Great Divide (Independence Pass at 12,095 ft is #1 ) but is the world’s highest pass that remains open throughout the winter! From the ridge line, water will either flow west into the Pacific Ocean or East into the Atlantic Ocean/Gulf of Mexico.
