I’ve heard damn near every excuse in the book… “I have bad genetics.” “I can’t afford supplements.” “I just need to train harder.” Hell, I’ve even heard guys (boys) blame their mom’s cooking!

Truth is, if you’re not building muscle, there are only few things you could be getting wrong.

You’re Not Eating Enough: I don’t care how hard you train, you’re not supplying your body with the necessary nutrients to grow you’ll never build muscle.

You’re Not Getting Stronger: The main pathway by which we build muscle is known as progressive overload. Unless you’re stimulating muscle growth through gradually doing more work in the gym, you’ll never build muscle.
_ 
Not Enough Protein: If you’re in a surplus (eating enough for growth), but you’re not consuming enough protein, it’s like trying to build a house – you may have enough workers, but not enough bricks!
_ 
Inconsistency: If you’re “eating enough”, but not consistently, you’re not eating enough. If you’re getting stronger, but are skipping sessions, you’re not doing enough total work. You’ve got to be consistent!

6 ounces (170g) bacon, roughly chopped
3 pounds (1 1/2 kg) beef brisket, trimmed of fat (chuck steak or stewing beef) cut into 2-inch chunks
1 large carrot sliced 1/2-inch thick
1 large white onion, diced
6 cloves garlic, minced (divided)
1 pinch coarse salt and freshly ground pepper
2 tablespoons flour
12 small pearl onions (optional)
3 cups red wine like Merlot, Pinot Noir, or a Chianti -- for a milder sauce, use only 2 cups of wine
2-3 cups beef stock (if using 2 cups of wine, use 3 cups beef stock)
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 beef bullion cube, crushed
1 teaspoon fresh thyme, finely chopped
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped (divided)
2 bay leaves

Mid week food prep done!
1) Fry off onions and garlic. Add 1kg of beef mince, season. Add mexican chilli beans and tinned tomatoes. Simmer for about 20min. I ended up adding some chilli powder too 🌶.
2) Roast potatoes, cut into small chunks, light spray of coconut oil. Seasoned with garlic salt fresh rosemary and oregano🌳.
3) Serve with steamed veggies when your ready to eat🥕🌽. *7-10 Serving sizes depending on what hungry hippos your feeding.

I made Kimo and I crepes for breakfast earlier. I used the crepe recipe from @theshrinkingmomma which is: mash one banana🍌w/ fork, whisk in two eggs, then I added 1 TBSP of maca root powder and some cinnamon. You mix all ingredients together then pour mixture onto a non-stick large frying pan (I sprayed pan with TJ's coconut oil spray first) set at medium-high heat. Then, wait until the edges of the crepe are golden brown. To flip the huge crepe, use a paper plate/plate -- not a spatula as it will screw it up (trust me). After you flip it, it cooks pretty quickly. (Check out my crepe post from this past weekend -- if you swipe there's a video of how to flip the crepe. Major technique). Then, just put the crepe onto a plate like a large flat pancake. Try to do it carefully so crepe stays flat on the plate. I put about a TBSP almond butter, strawberries and raspberries. Then I kind of rolled the crepe like a real crepe, all rolled up. I then put a little more almond butter on top, added more sliced strawberries🍓, some raspberries & blueberries. Voila! This is 3 points on #WWfreestyle for the approximate 1 TBSP almond butter. More important than the #weightwatchers points value is the clean eating going on as there is ZERO flour, sugar or dairy. Not using #sugarfree maple syrup is even better because of ZERO sugar alcohols. .

So annoying and grammatically incorrect) but progress-checked-in with the scale this morning since quitting dairy/flour/sugar and I cannot believe I'm down 2.6 lbs already since Saturday🙌🏼👏🏻👏🏻). The BEST part about eating like this is that mental clarity is vastly improved🎉🎉🎉❕❕❕

I did most of my prep last night: I threw a frozen pork roast in the Instant Pot and left it overnight (gotta love the 10 hour keep warm function!), hardboiled a bunch of eggs, roasted yucca fries (first time, they are SO GOOD) and roasted some frozen asparagus and broccoli.

Today I cooked up some sweet potatoes and made lemon waters. 👌 I've got ground beef and a goose breast to cook yet today or tomorrow.

And then I'll be set for... the day! Hopefully a few. 😉

Cooking in batch is an easy way to food prep and make eating healthy easier!!

It doesn’t have to be a full meal!

Batch cook oven roasted sweet potato, butternut squash & carrots! 
Dice the sweet potato and microwave for 12 minutes. 
Dice butternut squash and microwave for 6 minutes.
Then oven roast with olive oil, salt and pepper until they go brown & crispy.

These can then be used to add to meats and other veggies for the next few days giving you tasty and healthy meals on the go.

Finally.... heading back to the gym! The wait is over!! This has been the longest break I have ever taken from training and I am ready to get moving!!!!!!!!! Such a great experience though. I learned the importance of patience and listening to your body first hand.  I have told my clients  to be patient and to avoid rushing after an injury but it was totally different when I had to do it. I am not a cook. If I can avoid it, I 100% do. My daily "cooking" is usually microwaving some rice, veggies, and vegan protein and putting a sauce on it. However, when I do cook, I love to meal prep things in a crockpot. Crockpots allow me to make huge quantities with very little work, which I am hugely in favor of. This weeks meal prep was Hoppin Johns. It's basically beans and kale. Best of all? Super easy and completely vegan. I'm currently saving up for an Instant Pot. Making a fresh batch of crushed nuts in the food processor! I add 1/4 cup serving of each and it makes a good amount to last me two weeks.  I love adding this mix to non fat Greek yogurt, salads and miscellaneous meals throughout the week to get my healthy fats. By crushing them I get the health benefits from all the different nuts in one. So good! 😋
