Often one of the first hints of spring in our fields, leucadendron serve as a welcoming committee for warmer and longer days. These barometers of the season begin to emerge as winter winds down, blooming from March all the way through May. Though often known as "conebush" due to their colorful nuts, leucadendron are considered the foliage side of the protea family. Around 80 known species exist and all share the same emphasis: the beauty of their foliage. The colorful petals of the leucadendron are called bracts (modified leaves), and the true flower is the cone nestled among their bracts.🌾 #protea#leucadendron#flowerfarm
Not your grandma’s bridal bouquet — although her bouquet was probably amazing. There’s nothing quite like a classic shield shaped bunch of white and green. But I also love a riot of color, and when I get a chance to experiment, I make wild things!
Anemones and ranunculus from the farm star in this bouquet, along with a supporting cast of brought in flowers. I wanted to make a bouquet that let burgundy, purple and pink anemones play together. I’m pretty pleased!
A dear friend watched my kids while I went in to buy a couple succulents for floral jewelry and had to force myself to stick to my list. @amesgreenhouse is pretty much the place plant dreams are made of 😍
Just started all my #zinnia seeds! I save seeds from last year’s plants, always trying to label what color they are, but honestly, I’ve never gotten it right. I’m also trying out a lot of the queen series. If you don’t know about those, stay tuned for some amaaaazimg flower photos this summer. #flowerfarm#flowerfarmer#cuttingroot
