For some reason conforming with society puts pressure on all of us. As much as we try to ignore the thought of friends, families or even strangers, they do exist and linger around us. One of the most opinionated topics in society is that of food (dieting, choices etc.)⠀

In my opinion, a lot of it is down to lack of education. Unfortunately to be blunt, most people know sh*t about nutrition. Because of this, we now have a huge mixing pot of information and those seeking actual help don't know where to find the truth. This is why I make it my mission to educate all my online coaching clients and you guys reading this.⠀

One of the most screwed up views of society is displayed in this infographic. Unfortunately (and I've had this personally myself for a long time and I'm sure some of you have too) when you eat nutritious, healthy foods you're automatically thought of as being on a diet. However, if you eat 'normal' food (basically crap that has caused a world wide obesity epidemic) it's deemed ok by society...⠀

Why do I bring this up? I'm making the point to those of you yet to start your journeys or those currently in the early stages. You're going to come across negativity from others. I had a manger tell me that 7 out of 10 people will say no to you when approached about personal training on the gym floor. That being said, they were EXCITED whenever they would have someone say no because it meant they were that much closer to hearing a yes. You can apply that same principle to anything in life. Every wrong decision you make is leading you to the right one. Every failed relationship is teaching you what to look for/what to do in a successful relationship. Every no from a potential client is getting you closer to a yes from one. Whatever the situation..take what happens, learn from it, and get one step closer to the outcome you are working towards. #GrowWithMe

Our bodies are capable of so much. The human body is able to be pushed to its limits, further than most people will ever push it. Bring that intensity to your workouts. I’m not saying go balls-to-the-wall every workout or go 24/7/365 “no days off”. What I’m saying is if you want to grow - whether physique wise or in strength: PUSH YOURSELF. Get that extra rep. Add on more weight. If you know you didn’t put all effort into a set, re-do it. If you even feel a tiny bit like you can do more, go for it. You’ll feel like death afterwards. You’ll want to crawl out of the gym. But that’s what it takes to reach those goals and beyond you set for yourself. Don’t underestimate your capabilities and to be completely blunt: don’t half-ass your workouts when you know you can up the intensity. Show the weights what you’re capable of. Bring that intent and fire to the gym and you’ll reap the benefits and surprise yourself too 🙌🏼

STOP COPYING OTHER PEOPLE - you need to figure out what works for YOU.
Let me explain where I’m coming from, because it wasn’t too long ago I was in your shoes.
When I finally decided I wanted to change my life, to be healthier, to get into lifting, to stop letting food be the enemy, etc.
I did what a lot of girls do - found inspiration on Instagram.
I started following a bunch of fitness influencers, bikini competitors, super toned and lean girls.
I read their posts, I watched their YouTube channels, I took in every piece of information I could get from them.
I copied their workouts. I copied their meals. I copied their supplements. Heck, I even copied their clothes.
They had the body I *thought* I wanted, so naturally I figured I had to do exactly what they do to get it.
Well, I’m here to tell you, it doesn’t work that way.
Every BODY is different.
What works for one person may not work for you, and you HAVE to stop comparing yourself to them!
You don’t know their history, how long they’ve been working out, what foods they tolerate or have an intolerance to, how their metabolism works, whether they’re an easy gainer or more genetically lean.
You. Don’t. Know. Their. Story.
You also probably don’t realize that a lot of the things they post about - food and supplement products especially - they are being PAID to endorse!
Half of them don’t even like or regularly use the products they constantly post about.
Just because someone recommends a product doesn’t mean you have to buy it!
NEWSFLASH: you do not need protein powders, preworkout, fat burners, or any other supplement, to reach your goals!
You don’t need to track macros just because your favorite “fit chicks” do.
You don’t need to follow a “clean eating” meal plan to be “healthy.”
You don’t need to lift 6 days a week or do HIIT workouts or kill yourself on the stairmaster just because they do.
You know what you DO need to do?

Lower slowly and squeeze your glues at the top. 🔹Weighted side steps- I do these when I don’t have my bands and want to target the abductors (the muscles on the side of your hip). Try not to bounce up and down, but just step side to side.

In Aug 2016 my 1RM on deads was 210 lbs. I was so excited for that number and remember thinking that I wanted to pull in the 200’s for reps some day. Fast forward to today (1.5 years later) where I pulled 205 lbs for PAUSE deadlifts 5x2 with more left in the tank. 🙌🏼

I actually weigh a couple lbs lighter in the right picture around low 130s whereas in the left pic I was 135lbs. Granted, in the right picture I had a pretty gnarly pump from an 800g carb refeed. However, currently I’m probably maintaining a better body composition than the left pic sitting around 150lbs and could still do so up to 155lbs maybe a bit more

I don’t have any crazy transformations in overall sheer size, but I’m pretty content with the progress I’ve made considering how tiny my frame was to start with. Another thing to note is mentally I probably thought I looked way more jacked or aesthetic in the left photo than I think of myself now. I guess body dysmorphia hadn’t quite set in yet 😂 #transformationtuesday #transformation

Today’s a #transformationtuesday Progressive overload is so key in increasing your overall strength and building muscle. I try to up my weight in most exercises (except like side raises lol) each time I workout. This prevents your muscles from adapting to the previous weight used. Each time you workout you’re tearing down your muscles. When you eat and sleep, they are rebuilding themselves, so essentially, you should be getting stronger with each workout. Don’t stick to the same weight if you know it’s getting easier. Of course don’t compromise form but constantly be pushing yourself in the gym each day and you’ll see lasting results you’re proud of💪🏼💕

Decided to do a quick review on @doughbardoughnuts while I see a lot of current talk about them. And if you haven’t heard about them- I’d say check them out. This I believe was a cinnamon toast donut. Going off memory, I recall these being pretty tasty donuts. With that said, I recall them having an odd aftertaste that I can’t really pinpoint. I also recall being hungry only an hour or so after eating this (it was only ~200 calories). The main reason I didn’t order them again was because I didn’t think the taste was worth the price (shipping and all...) but I was glad I tried it and I probably would buy again if they were sold at a supermarket or vitamin shoppe type store. For those who have tried this or are debating on it (I say try it!), what are your thoughts?? 🍩

In case you were wondering, yes, I still lift.

Life has been a whirlwind of sorts over the last few weeks. I don't think I'll get into the details now. Basically I've had some major issues with myself (don't know if you can call it body dysmorphia), and some major life crisis moments where I felt like pulling my hair out (funny I know because there isn't much there).

There's been a lack of content on here because I just haven't been able to focus on something and write it down. I want my content to be good, so instead of half-assing, I left it alone for a bit. Ideas are flowing, they'll be back.

The lack of self confidence, along with the extreme stress of everything else just made for a bad time all around. In that same breath I tweaked my back just standing around a couple weeks ago and it's still not back to normal. Pair that with my stress overeating and you can guess which direction my bodyweight went.

Life is throwing some major challenges at me and I haven't responded the way I wanted. You know what though? That's okay.

I'm still here.

I take it day by day, task by task, and make sure I have some 'me time' to clear my head.

When you see people say that fitness is a journey, they're not kidding. It's nice to get lean for the summer or a wedding or whatever, but what's after that? The rest of your life! Do this for life. There will be ups and downs, but if you're trending in the right direction, you're on your way.

Strong Jon here telling you that nobody is perfect, especially not me. Keep plugging away. You got this 💪 👊

But I thought I’d give it a try, so popped it in the microwave for a couple minutes ⏲ and for the effort I put in, I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty it was 😋

Ever since i've been incorporating these, I've noticed way more lower body activation for sumo deadlifts💜 I'd say give it a try if you're more of a back dominant puller. This exercise will show you how to engage your glutes, quads, and a little bit of hammies, more efficiently during the lift.

Since the new year, I’ve added 3 days of sauna (10-20 min per session) and 3 days of Jacuzzi (20-30 minutes per session) during the week. I’ve heard the benefits of each, I’m not sure if they are benefiting me as far as weight loss goes, but my body thanks me everyday. Relaxed my muscles, body, and mind, leaving me feeling refreshed and ready to take on the rest of the day. 😬😬😬

Quest Skillet Cookie Pie?
🍪
Ingredients:
• 1 can white beans, drained & rinsed
• 2 scoops @questnutrition protein powder
• 1/3 cup peanut butter
• 2 whole eggs
• 2 tsp vanilla extract
• 1/4 tsp baking powder
• 1 chopped Cookie Dough Quest Bar
• 1/2 chocolate chips (for the drizzle)

Directions:
• Blend all ingredients, except the Quest Bar
• Then fold in the Quest Bar
• Pour into a greased skillet
• Bake at 340° for 15-20 minutes

The chocolate chips are an estimate because I used left over Valentines chocolate, but a lil extra never hurt anybody!

If you’re new to the gym, using machines are great to start with since it leaves less room for error. The machines are designed to have more linear movement and help you follow the range of motion that is designed for that exercise helping you understand the exercise and have muscle memory. Of course there are other things to consider like the seat adjustment, but don’t be afraid to read the ‘How To’ on the machine👍🏼

With cables, it becomes a good transition to free weights because you still have a range to follow with the cable, yet more freedom than machines.

What I personally like to do is incorporating everything because everything has its own Pros & Cons. I start my workouts with more compound movements starting with machine or Barbell exercises. I then move on to free weight dumbbells or barbells since I have energy and have great control over my movements. By this time I get really fatigued since my workouts are typically 6-9 exercises. I end my workout with a few cable exercises because I am getting exhausted which naturally causes more room to be sloppy with movement. The cables help me keep good form and end with isolation for the muscle I am working. I have found this to be the most successful workout setup for me👌🏼
You always want to have complete control of your movements, keeping your back straight, core tight. If you feel you’re struggling through an exercise you should lower the weight until you are comfortable. The point of resistance training is the muscle/mind connection, not just going through the motions 😎💪🏼 Need help? DM me
