I’m ready when you are...
In the midst of researching pathophysiology I took a break, both for my mind and to refuel. Eating a rainbow plus protein, and a good book are ideal ways to do that for me. Finally finished this fantastic book and i would urge everybody to read it- if implementing only 10% of the advice in it I reckon the general public would be so much healthier! So treat yourself, and learn some very simple steps to creating a healthier you. Breakfast can  be the hardest meal of the day to get right. By right I mean low in sugar, providing sustainable energy for the morning  as well as minimum of 1 portion of vegetable or fruit. Just a  look in the supermarket cereal aisle gives away morning priorities - speed and convenience. But porridge (complex carbohydrate that makes you feel fuller for longer) is much better alternative and easier and faster to prepare than you think. Put it together in the evening - mix oats, milk of your choice, cinnamon, grated apple, coconut oil in a pot and refrigerate overnight. It will take much shorter time to cook. Using fozen fruits saves time too (eliminates chopping and utencil washing). Seeds and nuts or nut butters make an excellent protein and essential fats topping. Today I topped mine with frozen cherries,  chia seeds and desiccated coconut. Yummy! What's your favourite topping?

☀️Have you taken your vitamin D today?☀️ ☁️ From October to end of March there is not enough sunshine (even on sunny days the rays are not sufficient) for us to make Vitamin D so it is recommended we all take a supplement (available in drops for infants and young children). Here's Juno taking hers (I look far too frightening after 5 days of minimal sleep to be in this pic 😂). We have a chewable tablet that tastes of raspberry which she reminds me everyday as she thinks it's a sweet! 👉 When you are buying yours make sure you check the dose as they are not all the same (see next post!) ✨Breastfed babies from birth to 1 yr need 8.5 micrograms ✨ 1yr and over 10 micrograms per day. ✨ Formula fed babies having more than 500mls of formula per day do not need a supplement as the milk is fortified.

 How often we as parents try to enjoy those moments when the children are playing nicely together!
we often sneak out of the room to catch up on whatever we want to do only few minutes later that we are back to solve the fight and shush the shouting!
.
What we usually do is giving our children” negative attention” attention only when they do something that needs parenting and we easily forget to give the same attention when they do something or not doing anything at all!
.
Confused?
.
Well let me explain more: Children look for attention. They want yours in any way, for praising or even for telling off. They just want it and they will get it one way or another. They prefer negative attention than non at all and they know how to get it! Soon enough we get stuck in that cycle, they misbehave (to get attention) you react (you give attention) they like it and they do it again!
.
It is important for us as parents not to fall in that trap of negative attention and to constantly give good attention and praise your child for “ the nice picture he is paining, or for playing nicely with his sibling or even just sitting quietly on his own.
.
Constant praising of the good attitude reinforce the behaviour whereas negative attention does quite the opposite.
.
Meal time is no different!

Almost all processed juice (and in fact baby food pouches) is pasteurised (heating the ingredients to high temperatures in efforts to kill possible microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi.) This executes a variety of heat-sensitive nutrients which provide most of the health benefits.
Juicing is great fun with kids, it’s also the only way to make sure your family gets 100% of the good stuff. 👍

Add whatever veges you have on hand and gently cook.  Cook noodles separately and once cooked, add to fry pan and mix the chicken & veg mixture through. A very simple step towards increasing your vegetable intake. .

Add it to Pasta sauce, leave it chunky or blend

Add it tochilli con carné
Add it to cottage pie
Add it to Shepherd pie
Add it pizza sauce with oregano,tomatoe pasta and garlic, leave chunky or blend.
Add it to soups and stews( almost all of them)

Why? 👉🏻Because celery, carrot and red onion are rich in antioxidants and polyphenols compound. 👉🏻Celery is diuretic and stimulate the the kidney to produce more urine, natural kidney cleanse.

Necesitás: 🍎1 manzana rallada, 🥕1 zanahoria grande rallada, 🥚3 huevos, 🥄chorrito de esencia de vainilla,
🥄media taza de azúcar mascabo (o lo que tengas; a mí no me gustan los budines demasiado dulces, así que se le puede poner más cantidad), 🥄media taza de aceite, 🥄2 tazas harina leudante, 🥄pizca de sal, 🥄1 cucharadita de bicarbonato,
🥄una pizca de nuez moscada, clavo de olor, puntita de jengibre rallado
✊🏼un puñado de nueces y almendras

Batir los huevos con el azúcar, la sal y la esencia de vainilla. Agregar el aceite y seguir batiendo; después la manzana, la zanahoria y el jengibre rallado. Incorporar la harina mezclada con los condimentos y las frutas secas.

Cocinar en horno precalentado bajo, alrededor de 40 minutos. Yo lo cociné en 4 cazuelas (ando corta de moldes 🙈).

Did you know Dr. Sears once had colon cancer?  This was the catalyst for his change in focus as an MD, turning to prevention, rather than pills, to support his patients is ways that are unfortunately so rare in Western medicine.

As Dr. Bill says, "You don’t all of a sudden “get cancer.” Chances are great that you, and even your children, have a few cancer cells lurking in your body. This is why we emphasize beginning the anti-cancer regimen, especially the anti-cancer diet, in early childhood, since cancer cells develop very slowly over decades and may not be detected until decades later."

En un post anterior te contaba lo bueno de incluir #legumbres en la alimentación y lo versátiles que son, además de ser de esos alimentos que te sirven para salir del paso.

Hay muchísimas versiones y variantes de hamburguesas con legumbres. Una de las claves es que la mezcla no quede muy seca porque entonces también quedará seca una vez cocinada.

Necesitás 2 tazas de #lentejas remojadas y cocidas; 2 #remolachas medianas cocidas (hervidas con cáscara); 1 diente de ajo y condimentos a gusto y harina para unir (también puede ser avena o pan rallado). Tan fácil como procesar o mixear todo junto. La cantidad de harina hay que ir probándola según la consistencia. Yo le puse alrededor de 3 cucharadas panzonas. . 
Conviene dejarla refrigerada un rato para que adquiera más consistencia. También es buena idea armarlas sobre separadores de freezer, congelarlas y después cocinarlas directo en una sartén o plancha, vuelta y vuelta. .
✍🏼Las remolachas tienen muchos nitratos, que en exceso pueden ser nocivos para bebés menores de 1 año. Consulten con su pediatra antes de introducirlas en la alimentación.

My dinner was simple vegetable frittata.

Medley of cooked vegetables from my fridge went to the pan with sliced red onion, thyme and 2 whisked egg. I added some goat cheese before I put the pan under the grill for few minutes.

Having ready cooked vegetables in the fridge is great way to keep cooking healthy meals quick with minimum fuss.

Now off to bed I go, as I have slept twice while writing this post 😂

Gosh it feels good to be able to cook dinner again and then actually sit down and enjoy it. We’ve lived off some very simple meals and lots of freezer stash the last month or so whilst the smell of cooking has been turning my stomach! So it was a treat to invest some time in cooking a fab @hemsleyhemsley inspired cottage pie today with @edgeandson grass fed beef mince, homemade beef stock, plenty of veg and herbs including leeks, carrot, celery, courgette, mushroom & rosemary, and a cauliflower and sweet potato mash on top. At my regular baby weaning workshops we talk about the amount and variety of vegetables we want to get into our family meals, this is a brilliant example of loading up the one dish (I counted 7 in total) and increasing variety beyond our staple potato 🥔🥔🥔 whilst still having a mega hearty meal. Gosh it feels good to be able to cook dinner again and then actually sit down and enjoy it. We’ve lived off some very simple meals and lots of freezer stash the last month or so whilst the smell of cooking has been turning my stomach! So it was a treat to invest some time in cooking a fab @hemsleyhemsley inspired cottage pie today with @edgeandson grass fed beef mince, homemade beef stock, plenty of veg and herbs including leeks, carrot, celery, courgette, mushroom & rosemary, and a cauliflower and sweet potato mash on top. At my regular baby weaning workshops we talk about the amount and variety of vegetables we want to get into our family meals, this is a brilliant example of loading up the one dish (I counted 7 in total) and increasing variety beyond our staple potato 🥔🥔🥔 whilst still having a mega hearty meal. ☔️ Rainy half term afternoons are made for some food prepping. .
🍏 Dried apple slices are easy for kids to make and a great snack to have to hand for them and you. .
🍎 Mix them with some nuts,  seeds and sultanas they make a good trail mix. .
✅ Simply slice apples thinly and soak in some water with lemon juice for 20 mins to stop them browning
✅ Take then out and dry on some kitchen roll, then place on a baking tray lined with grease proof paper and pop into a preheated oven at 150 (fan) for around 20-30’mins
✅ Turn the slices over and put back into the oven for another 15-20 minutes or until done. Leave them to cool in the oven. .

Play Dough, OLD BUT GOLD!

It is cold and miserable this half term and if you staying in doors, you gotta keep them entertained!
Wether you have a crawler or toddler, play dough is immense fun. 
And of course as always, home-made version are way better for your children. .
I never bought a play dough (honestly, hands on heart, never) and I always make it. 
Not only it’s cheap (shop bought one can get costly overtime, especially when toddler start throwing them around and leaving them to dry!) but also SAFE. I never worry if my son put it in his mouth because I MADE IT. I know what is in it and I used ingredients I know and can pronounce. .
And because I want your children to be safe too, here is my trusted recipe that I use for years to make play dough.

Store it in a container or plastic bags and it will keep for months & months!

You will need:

2 cups of plain flour
1 cup of salt (use cheap table salt for economic recipe or use sea salt if you wish)
2 Tbsp of cooking oil
different food colouring (I use gel)
4 Tbsp of Cream of Tartar
2 cups of boiling water

Make it
————
Mix flour, cream, salt and oil in a bowl, then add the boiling water, stir continuously until it becomes very sticky.
Divide it into quarters, add your colours and then leave it aside to cool a bit to handle.
Either with some elbow grease or a machine, need each quarter vigorously for few minutes to develop gluten and becomes elastic. Knead until all the sickness is gone. This is very crucial and important step so don’t take short cut.
And You are FINISHED. Store it in air tight container or zip plastic bag at all times.
