“Ultimately this is more than just a fight between America and the Taliban or Al Quada, just as World War 2 was more than just the allies versus the Axis. This is a struggle between the forces that would protect and nourish human dignity and freedom, and those that would destroy it. Adam Brown was part of that struggle.” p234—FEARLESS— This book represents what it’s like to not only take the fight to the enemy, but fight your demons as well. Set goals, achieve them...repeat. #fearlessbook#ericblehm#adambrown#bookreview#veteran#navysealtraining#militarybook
“There's these things called books, it's like television for smart people”
Seriously though.. I just finished this amazing book by Eric Blehm and if you haven’t picked it up DO IT! The way he paints the views of the High Sierra and pays tribute to the life of a man who committed his life to those same mountains...
We should all read books about men far greater than we could ever hope to be.
This is my second time reading the story of Adam Brown, and I still found myself unable to set the book down or keep my composure at the end. This man was the consummate warrior, husband, father, and son. We should all strive to be a little more like Adam Brown.
I’ve been asked a number of times why I wear a shoelace necklace every day... Veteran's Day seemed like a fitting time to share :) They are in remembrance of Adam Brown, the inspirational perseverance, morals, and values he exemplified, and as a reminder that there is always hope.
A former incarceated drug addict, Adam went on to be a well-respected Navy SEAL Chief (SOC). During his time in the Middle East, Adam was known for frequently hiking into the mountains to collect the shoe sizes of Afghan children, as he noticed they were often barefoot in the winter, and writing to his friends and family requesting specific shoe sizes (in lieu of Christmas and birthday gifts) so he could deliver them to the kids. In October 2008, after a number of surgeries - including losing his right eye - Adam returned to the Kunar Valley on another tour of duty, not just to fight, but also to deliver over 500 pairs of shoes to Afghan children.
Adam was killed in action in Komar Province, Afghanistan on March 17, 2010. "His actions on his final mission were indicative of the way he lived his life," wrote Adam's commander in a message to all DEVGRU operators. "Fearless." Adam was awarded a Bronze Star for combat, and a Silver Star posthumously.
To learn more of Adam's story, I highly recommend reading "Fearless" by author @ericblehm. If you do, and would like a shoe charm, feel free to ask. I always carry an extra on me.
When the bugs are miserable and your body is tired after a day of hiking, you head to your tent and read. And read and read and read! I was averaging one book every two days. This one (The Last Season) was an easy favorite. I’m always looking for book recommendations. Whose read anything good lately?
I'm making a 10 year goal to read 1,000 books. I'm starting my tracking from the last 2 books I have read which were Fearless by Eric Blehm and The Worlds Greatest Salesman by Og Mandino. -
I took a picture of the Bible, because I want this to be one of the books. I've read maybe half of it before, but I can't really tell you much about it. The last time I got into reading scripture I became obsessed with it where I tried getting others to become Christian...instead of just focusing on myself...focusing on how I could be a good Christian. Eventually I fell off the path, I focused on other things, and the times that I did try to come back to a church they were all bad experiences. One time I literally felt like I was in hell. The one place I was hoping to not ever feel like that...gave me that sickness in my stomach, where I never wanted to go back again. I felt empty inside. It was an emptiness I had never felt in my life. -
Before I give up on Christianity I want to at least read the whole bible and really understand it. Because I remember times where it did give me some healing in my life. -
There are some bad churches, self-centered people, me included. I'm a fucking douche bag sometimes, and I probably deserved those shitty experiences, because maybe it wasn't suppose to be about me.
Regardless 10 years from now, 1000 books. This book included. Two down, 1,998 to go. #getafterit#read#bible#fearless#ericblehm#ogmandino#staugustine#floridalife
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸Thank you #ericblehm for a heartfelt tribute to an honorable man, who despite a very troubled time, is a testament to God's work in our lives. Adam Brown, along with the many heroic men & women of our Armed Services, provide hope in a country which often causes us to recently question what humanity remains. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸1 Peter 5:10 - May the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹 https://www.nratv.com/series/patriot-profiles/episode/patriot-profiles-season-3-episode-2-a-tribute-to-adam-brown
First book that I read in 2017. It took five months, but I finally finished a book. It took like 5 days for me to finish this one lol...it's that good!
This is definitely my favorite book at the moment. It opened my eyes to what our Navy Seals do and what it takes to be a man.
If you only read one book this year make it this one, #fearless . You will be moved by this book. It isn't another SEAL book cataloguing the training progression through BUD/S and the advanced courses. This is a book about the unbreakable spirit of a young man who went through some of the hardest challenges you can think of(some self inclined, some not) to pushing himself to achieve things that seemed impossible. As I read this book and trials kept getting thrown at him, I wondered, "will he give up now? He gave it his all, he can give up honourably at this point." BUT HE NEVER DID! He pushed through everything that was thrown at him and achieved everything he desired. I recommend this book to everyone. This book is full of hope and the resilience of the human spirit. I dare you to walk away from this book without feeling challenged to be better in some areas of your life and wanting to share this story with others.
The last few chapters of this book were heartrending to read. I read it with tears swelling up in my eyes and knowing what was coming made it more difficult for me. Never have I read any book that evoked so much pride, spirit, or heartbreaking sobbing tears.
Guys, do read this book and I guarantee you wouldn't be thwarted at any point in the book. READ IT!
Favourite quote: "You gotta do what you gotta do, and when you are done, you'll be stronger for it" and "I got this!". On to my next book - Autobiography of a yogi.
P.S. Thanks to you buddy, @enoch_theph for making me aware of this book. It was really a good read. I should have read it a long time back. Reading about Adam made me realise that anything is possible and to tackle life with a never-quit attitude and to have faith in God no matter how tough the life gets. Now I get it why you were so carefree after reading this book before the exams, "I GOT THIS!".
Just finished reading this book and it was incredible. Had to hold back tears throughout the entire time reading, but lost it at the end. The SEALs are our Hero's indeed. Thank you for protecting our county. Thank you to Adam Brown for sharing your story with the world.
Just finished this book and it's definitely one of my all time favorites now. It's mind blowing what this man went through and accomplished with all odds against him. A true warrior spirit, faith greater then I've ever seen and a never quit attitude. I hope they make a movie off of this book because more people need to know the story of Navy Seal Adam Brown. A must read book that I will have my sons read as well. #seals#adambrown#military#fearless#ericblehm#warriorspirit#faith
I often wonder why spectators choose to deify certain military figures as if they are so 21st century #GodsofWar without the same judgement passed on those political figures like the ones involved im #benghazi #🤔 ______________________________________ #repost • • •
A former #ArmySpecialForces officer is accusing retired #MarineGeneral#JamesMattis , President-elect #DonaldTrump 's pick to be defense secretary, of "leaving my men to die" after they were hit by friendly fire in# Afghanistan in #2001 .
#Mattis has not commented publicly on the incident, which was chronicled in a 2011 #NewYorkTimes#bestselling book #TheOnlyThingWorthDyingFor by #EricBlehm . The book portrays Mattis as stubbornly unwilling to help the #GreenBerets .
His actions, which were not formally investigated at the time, are now likely to get far more scrutiny during the retired general's Senate confirmation process.
#Trump 's transition team did not respond to request for comment from #NBCNews . Nor did Mattis, whose 2013 retirement from the military means he would need a waiver from Congress to serve as the civilian Pentagon chief.
Mattis is a highly decorated former wartime commander who became famous for leading the #1stMarineDivision 's lightning fast movement into #Baghdad during the U.S. invasion of #Iraq in #2003 . [MORE OF THE STORY BELOW IN THE COMMENTS] 👇👇
Been in the car a lot over the past year from driving across the country a couple times to now enjoying that world famous Los Angeles commute. Here is a brief sampling of the audiobooks that have kept me company on the road.
A must read!... "The will to live is strong in all creatures. There is a tenaciousness in life, and in that as much as anything must lie the hope of this world. Individuals perish as readily as they are born, but life will endure. Individuals will see to it." - Randy Morgenson #thelastseason#ericblehm
I have posted in the past about this book and I'm gonna do it again. If you ever find yourself in a place in your life that you think this is it man, I'm at my low and it's all I know. Read this book! I can't express the inspiration that is in this book. It's unreal! I'm watching We Were Soldiers tonight and for some reason I thought of Adam Brown. Two completely different eras but for me, brought it together. No matter who you are, or your stand in life you can make a difference. To me, this man made a difference. Some of you have no idea who Adam is, but you should know his story cause it reaches far beyond military service. True inspiration! #adambrown#fearless#navy#seal#army#weweresoldiers#ericblehm#inspire#readsomething
