▫️There is a lot of debate about HIIT and it’s relevance for new gym goers. Understandably so - the intensity that is required to achieve EPOC (excess post exercise oxygen consumption) can be incredibly challenging if you are new to exercise. Not necessarily something I’d happily throw at a new client in their first session unless I wanted to traumatise them! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
▫️What we can do however is slowly build up the intensity of training over time. How long? That depends on the client’s current fitness levels and also how confident they feel with you as a trainer. Endless amounts of cardio is not needed, all it does is tax your immune system, can cause over training and can even hinder recovery, if you are going to to do cardio I suggest some H.I.I.T cardio (high intensity interval training)
I make my clients do ten mins or a touch more every session 
This increases EPOC (exercise post-exercise oxygen consumption) in a nut shell H.I.I.T increases the rate of O2 intake following high intensity exercise so after intense exercise your body is still taking in a lot more O2 after the session finishes meaning your metabolism stays raised throughout the day and fat burning continues through out the day compared to long periods of low intensity boring cardio. If you enjoy a nice long run or bike ride sometimes that’s fine hence why I’ve put a small percentage in there.

The main focus is high intensity weight training, again stick to compound lifts burn fat through increasing your muscle mass and BMR and EPOC.

H.I.I.T will strengthen up your heart lungs and cardiovascular system which is what you want. The main thing is that YOU ARE IN A CALORIE DEFICIT. Calories in vs calories out is the main equation for fat loss hence why I’ve put nutrition as the biggest portion of this pie chart. .
Stick to your calorie needs, eat under maintenance calories, your body will have no choice but to lose weight, to ensure the weight loss is from fat focus on strength training this holds on to as much muscle mass and tone as possible. . 
Eat at least a lb of protein per pound of body weight the next amount of macros should come from healthy fats and lastly fill in what’s left of your calorie needs with carbs.

Had to sub a #HIITClass this morning (weights with plyometrics and other heart rate-spikers). Squat jumps, plyo lunges, speedskaters, Burpees, Etc. My heart rate response was so pretty!  Actually could’ve gotten my upper heart rate higher, but when you’re teaching, it’s hard to get totally breathless because you still have to talk to the class!  #GroupFitnessInstructorProblems
