As program manager at the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Atmospheric Chemistry, Carbon Cycle, and Climate (AC4) Competitive Research Program, alumna Monika Kopacz, S.M. ’05, Ph.D. ’09, helps atmospheric chemistry and carbon cycle research projects get off the ground. She takes submissions to the AC4 annual call for proposals through the peer-review process to make grant recommendations. Depending on the budget and @NOAA priorities, AC4 sometimes posts a small call and funds only a handful of projects, while other years the program receives dozens of proposals and makes up to 20 awards. While it can be heartbreaking to break the bad news to researchers who don't receive funding, Kopacz finds it gratifying to contribute to the success of so many important projects. “It can sometimes be a challenge to convince people to appreciate that science itself is important, and that basic research will lead to great discoveries,” she said. “But what gets me out of bed in the morning is the fact that I work on air pollution, and I am helping people and helping to save the environment.”⠀
@jackbambridge “So I’ve teamed up with @PlantWarriorco to bring you guys some sweet information on their 100% Plant-Based protein, which I‘m using as an alternative to Whey. It’s made from Rice, Pea & Hemp proteins and has a complete Amino Acid profile. 🌿 So with healthier ingredients than Whey Protein, it’s perfect for those who are Lactose Intolerant, Vegan or just want a healthier protein powder! I myself often get a little sick with too much Dairy, so this combined with a Plant-Based milk such as Almond Milk 🥛 does the job perfectly! . But here’s the real kicker, for every bag purchased, they’ll plant a tree! 🌳 So not only are you helping yourself out making all kinds of gains, but you’re helping the environment do the same 🤙🏼 It’s also Gluten Free which is a god send for me and my fellow Coeliacs out there 🙌🏼 So if you fancy checking it out, make sure you visit @PlantWarriorco. If not for me, do it for the Trees! 🌳🌳”

In light of the discussion around the zero waste movement and privilege over the past few weeks, I have been hyper aware of the societal structures I benefit from. However, I spent this weekend in a hotspot area for environmental racism known as Baytown, Texas.
The reality of what some people deal with on a daily basis hit my like a ton of bricks.
If you have the utmost privilege of waking up everyday and breathing clean air, be grateful.
Incorporate as much gratitude into your life as often as you possibly can because honestly.... most of us have a lot to be grateful for.
The #BLM has weaponized #design in effort to associate the agency that’s tasked with protecting our great lands with a new effort to rip them into shreds by allowing #oil companies to drill and scar the #landscape for ever. If you give a damn about the #environment and want our #children to experience the #beauty in the #future we have to stay on top of this and communicate with the administration making these backwards decisions. Very short-sighted. Our #environment and #humanity are at tremendous risk. Please read the article on @outsidemagazine website for more info and search #departmentoftheinterior and #bureauoflandmanagement to express discontent with their new direction #thankyou Abigail Barronian for writing this article y’all can follow her here @wild_pansy_
