Congratulations to Pamela on November's ❤️Heart to Heart contest! Her story: In 2006, my boyfriend landed a great job which brought us to Ottawa. The Heart and Crown quickly became our favourite watering hole in the city! A year later, his office moved to Preston Street and so we found a tiny apartment nearby. To our surprise, the Heart and Crown opened a new location just a few blocks away – we were so excited! ⠀
We were then in our early 20’s and considered the Heart and Crown our living room and our backyard. We loved our neighbourhood so much, we bought a house and our favourite pub was now less than a block away!⠀
Our new home was the ideal staging area for many get-togethers with friends that always ended at the Heart and Crown for dancing and great live music. One of our best memories was the time my boyfriend and I met on the patio for dinner at 4pm and bumped into several groups of friends and colleagues throughout the evening. Around 7pm, the band started loading in their gear and so we decided to wait to hear a few songs, but found out they didn’t start until 10pm, so we waited. The band was so good, we stayed for their entire performance and didn’t leave until 2am!⠀
Over the next ten years, our lives changed significantly but the Heart and Crown remained a fixture in our lives all throughout. The late nights have been replaced with lunch dates with my boyfriend (now husband) and breakfasts on the patio with our two little boys. ⠀
We’ve experienced our favourite pub, at varying times, literally every single hour of operation and in such contrasting capacities. As we celebrate 10 years living in Little Italy, we celebrate with the Heart and Crown Preston as we’ve been here with them since Day 1!⠀
For the first time in more than a century, residents of Ottawa will be able to walk to the edge of the Ottawa River’s majestic Chaudière Falls. Check out Mìwàte at Booth street for a whole month, then check us out down on Preston Street!
