Celtic Nights )Male Singers) © 2018 Orlando Gustilo. All rights reserved.
The troupe included 3 female singers (two from Scotland, the rest, Irish), musicians, dancers. They performed the night before St. Patrick’s Day. We had front row seats so when the troupe advanced to sit on the edge of the proscenium, they were almost in our laps! I’d never felt this close to performers before. The night was amazing! With their theme of replaying the Irish immigration and the tolls that took on lives and relationships, I felt I had, for the first time, celebrated St. Patrick’s Day - for all immigrants to the USA. It takes a raw breed of people to brave the hardships in search of a new life of freedom and hope. Especially today as the country is examining its welcome of immigrants and the effect migration has on culture and the economy.

Asparagus in Chianti and Mayonnaise © 2018 Orlando Gustilo. All rights reserved. Asparagus begins to appear in groceries in early spring. For me spring is having my fill of asparagus, simply cooked in red wine and served with good mayonnaise and a fresh sprinkling of black pepper. #duendearts #food #foodphotography #asparagus #vegetables #spring
Shrimp Celery Scallion Omelet © 2018 Orlando Gustilo. All rights reserved. Omelets offer endless possibilities. This one-egg omelet is “filled” with shrimp, goat cheese and scallion but I gently sautéed the filling first in olive oil before adding the egg and making the omelet so the filling peeks out of the egg. #duendearts #dailyphoto #breakfast #photographer #food #foodphotography #egg
Lenten Rose (Helloborus) © 2018 Orlando Gustilo. All rights reserved.
Spring always seems to spring on me, takes me by surprise. This year though it has been even more of a surprise with our record low temperatures and ice, ice, ice just days ago! It is Lent so this variety of the Hellebores is one of the first to appear in woodlands. This, along with the winter aconite, for me signals the majestic arrival of spring and spring flowers.
