If you’re looking for a bent over row that taxes the upper back and takes stress off the spine, try using band assistance (reverse bands). Here I have one of my clients, @cali.shad performing them with RDL’s. Before I discuss the rationale, I want to highlight how proud I am of Cali, who suffered a very severe injury 2 years ago that literally broke her back and fractured her spine. I started working with Cali 7 months ago, at which time she had very limited function and intense pain.

After employing a variety of therapeutic exercises, particularly eccentric isometrics and core exercises, Cali is back to full function and performing literally every compound movement, including squats, deadlifts, cleans, presses, pullups, plyometrics and more. Furthermore, we relied on no additional therapeutic modalities such as soft tissue work, stretching, mobility drills, foam rolling, or corrective exercises. Instead, we relied on correct execution of basic movement patterns executed in an eccentric isometric fashion to produce all of the therapeutic stimuli she needed.

I’m so proud of this young women and excited for the very bright future ahead for her. Love working with you, Cali!

In regards to this exercise, using accommodating resistance minimizes stress to the low back as it deloads the bottom. This bottom position is typically where there’s greater stress to the spine since the upper back and lats are not contributing as much to support the load. Once you row the weight up, the upper back and lats help support the load since these muscles are in the fully contracted position, thereby taking stress off the spine. Resetting every few reps with an RDL helps minimize low back fatigue.

Havent touched anything over 130kg on bench since British Juniors last November but everything was moving well so I whacked three wheels on to see how I handled something relatively heavy 😄

Full discretion, these were meant to be properly paused but that went out the window pretty fast.

Pretty good workouts for me the past two days! Still working hard on strength and range of motion. Slowly getting stronger and a bit faster as the weeks go by! Don’t ever give up on yourself EVER! Be proactive in your recovery/rehab after knee replacement and you will get your quality of life back!!! Next year this time you will see me competing in the CrossFit open that’s my goal! What a BCAA can do is during or after intense exercise it helps repair the muscle tissue that is broken through stress or rips to the muscle fibres that occur especially after heavy lifting. BCAAs are more useful when you are in a high calorie deficit, training intensely and frequently and need to recover quickly. Are they absolutely necessary? NO! Sorry they aren't. But they have their place if you're a serious athlete, have certain dietary preferences (vegans/vegetarians), or training for a competition.

Bench stuff from yesterday, pretty sure 4x4 with 250 is a volume PR, especially for how easy it felt. Bench in general has never been this consistently fluid and easy, big things coming soon. Also had a wild bear sighting at the compound.

Part of last night's impromtu lift at @goldenageiron, featuring a beltless PR at 275lbs. Officially 8 full weeks of shoving my ego down in my pockets and lifting beltless to work on form and heal my dislocated rib. I know all this core stabilization has paid off and I can't wait to transfer this work in to my heavier attempts starting Tuesday. 8 weeks out from #powermania at @dungeonfitness @dungeon_strength_events
