An insight into the stack of sketches and decision making that goes into a piece of my Italian Hand script lettering! I usually start really roughly in a sketchbook, and start tracing to refine shape, spacing and proportion. Then its time to play with ligatures and flourishes! Scroll back through my feed a little for the final artwork 👀👆🏻For those who love a game of spot the difference—the S, G and g change again and again 🔄
I grew up by the side of this river as it goes through my hometown Tervola. The Kemijoki river is 550km long, making it the longest river in Finland. I made this logotype to honour our beautiful stream.
This year we will most likely witness the death of the last remaining natural stream of Kemijoki river. Energy company Kemijoki Oy is planning to build a hydroelectric power station in Sierilä, Rovaniemi – the last part of the river where the water runs free. This will be the end of many endangered fish species in the area, as it will destroy their natural inhabitant. History has shown that hydropower also causes permanent, signifant damage to the environment. The regional economical benefits are short-lived.
Last november experts from many organisations – including WWF, Greenpeace and The Finnish Association for Nature Conservation (Suomen luonnonsuojeluliitto) – urged Kemijoki Oy to cancel their plans. According to Kemijoki Oy, the project is now in "active preparation". I hope they will come to their senses and cancel the project. I've emailed @wwfsuomi for some more info but haven't got an answer yet. .
Decided to return back to the ol’ white pencil on black paper and it was as hard as I remember it being to keep it clean. Speaking of keeping it clean, this week’s #HOMwork gave us the assignment of writing down bad words in fancy ways and gosh darn it you people know I don’t like cursing so I went with a uhhhhhhh....classier approach? I don’t really think poppycock is a classy word but as far as bad words go, I think it’s up there. It should be, at least.
#tbt Still obsessed with this sweet collab that @shit_pixel and I did last year. He did some badass animation to bring my Kirby type piece to life. Absolutely love what he did 🤘check him out for more animation works👊
[🎟 via link in bio] I’m stoked to be announcing 3 new workshops happening in the next couple months: New York City, Chicago, and Boston! I’m really looking forward to all of these: NYC is my current home-base, Boston is one of my favorite cities, and I’ve been in love with Chicago since first visiting it in 2011! The Chicago workshop is in partnership with @STA_chicago and @vichcraft (I’ve been a fan of Jenna’s for a long time, so this is particularly exciting for me!) 🖤 I like to keep my workshops small, since giving individual attention to each participant is my favorite part, so all of them are between 30 and 50% sold out already (thanks email friends 💌), so sign up via link in bio!
PS: There’s still a few spots left for my Albany workshop (which will actually taking place in neighboring Troy on 4/7), I’ll also be giving a talk while I’m in town, so I hope you’ll stop by if you’re in the area!
Holy cow! After travelling a year and a month, jumping to two main continents, exploring over 15 countries & 40+ cities🌎🌍🌏, my nomad life finally has come to a pause⏸.
I’m finally travelling back to my root Continent- Asia tonight🏮🏮🏮, back to my sweet home- Hong Kong🇭🇰, where I’ve left for so long. My family is pushing me to come back ASAP, my friends are greeting me: “Welcome back to hell mate💀💀💀”. Either of these, I’m glad I’ve made this decision❤️
See you all soon in HK bitches😏!
This one’s been awhile in the making. A friend of mine found this print in the trash a couple of years ago. He wanted the frame it was in, and I kept the print thinking one day I’d get around to doing something with it. Thanks to Stephen King and a lot of silver ink, it finally happened.
Finally the new poster dedicated to one of our fave Oscar Wilde quotes is in the shop! "A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world". Visit our shop by clicking on the link in our bio. Grazie! :)
This is a re-sketched sketch that I really like and wanted to share. This is as real as it gets. Starting with loose, messy sketching and refining as you go is how to get it right. We were taught in the Industrial Design program in college to keep it light until you get it right. We always sketched with ink (ballpoints, roller balls, sharpies, etc.) so we couldn’t erase. We learned to commit and be ok with the progression of our sketching and be able to see the development of our designs. I love the motion and action sketches can convey.
