Always bring your own cup/mug to the #coffee shop or work. Once you’re finished with your coffee, keep your cup/mug clean and stain free. Soak with water with a dot of soap. #littleaudreyhouse *make your own coconut or cashew milk too instead of buying it. 😉@fruition360
Sometimes the shots your drone gets whilst on the ground can be just as descriptive and tell a story. Had an inspiring morning with @fenyfy and the Emas Hitam Indonesia (EHI) crew using the drone to map the site to aid the organisation for a permaculture redesign project #blackgold [#Bali 🇲🇨]
I've decided to take my passive approach to composting up a notch and take a more active, focused role in producing a finished product with a more consistent texture and humusy quality. Up till now I have basically cold composted, not actively turning the pile on any regular basis. I've improved my composting facility and will turn the pile on a regular basis to increase breakdown of the organic matter. Sifting and using the finished compost will be the final step.
I don’t do many product reviews, but this is too good not to share. I use a Bokashi Compost system for kitchen scraps and also run 3 garden compost bins. This liquid Bokashi blend is incredible in the food scrap bin and also as a boost for the compost. After having 5 kilo of Bokashi grain go rotten on me at the start of the summer I was delighted to come across this new user friendly aid. Available from http://www.compostinghome.com.au And it’s Aust made- bonus. #judystyle#kuluinkitchengarden#composting#bokashi#growyourownfood#growsomethinggreen#sunshinecoast
I have big plans for my garden this year. Motivated by trying to create less waste and living healthier, I will be spending a lot more time outside learning and connecting with the earth. We have so much to learn from nature.
This is just the start, expect to see more about what I grow, composting, bees, chickens and recipes from the garden. 🌏✌🏼🐝🐔🌱🥙
NEW blog post is up! •link in bio• I got quite a few requests from fellow tiny housers/RVers to share how we modified our Nature's Head. (When I say we, I really mean Logan)😂 Since this was his project and I'm clueless about it, Logan wrote this post! 👏I hope it helps! ••Look out for a delicious recipe post coming soon••
From start to finish!! My indoor @linkyocorp Composter was full, so it was time to bring it to my outdoor composter. I dumped it in, spun it a couple of times and then cleaned my @linkyocorp so it is ready to be filled again! #composting#compost#foodscrapshAveapurpose . What did I fill my compost with, you ask? Peels, plain white paper, veggie and fruit scraps and egg shells.
Toilets impact our rivers & oceans, our drinking water, our crops, our physical & mental health and the entire eco-system. We watched the Documentary: Cry of a River together at CoLab today. It threw light on the state of affairs of toilets and the state of water in India. (not cool!) We are gearing up to take greater responsibility of our waste by educating ourselves first and then taking action in the desired direction.
If you have photos of composting toilets you have buit or composts that you are managing, we invite you to share them here with us! Let's build a healthy world together :) Colab is a living community lab graciously supported by @bookasmileindia
This is my individual week's worth of biodegradeable waste. Several pounds of waste. I'm extremely careful with my food waste and almost never toss food, but even still, scraps add up. If this waste goes to a landfill, it sits there slowly decomposing anaerobicly and producing methane, a green house gas.
I'm grateful that here, in Belgium, organic waste is collected separately to be composted.
Please, if you are able, compost at home. If your locality does not provide separate organic waste pickup, petition for it to be instated!
Well I am beginning to think about peas perhaps after this current cold spell because there is no way the planting pot I obtained yesterday can be brought into my window sill!! 😂 Hubby found this (and with the builders permission) brought it home for me. It is perfect for planting peas it is deep and you don't disturb the roots when you slide them off into their final position.
You have to get ankle deep in poop if you want to build healthy soil! And today we’ll be doing just that with Shawn and Phillip from our Vermicompost team. They’ve taken over our Insta-stories and will be talking compost (and bees) all day! Check it out!! (📷 @kerioberly) #instatakeover#vermicompost
Honest moment here: a lot of what we share is documentation of our changes. We have not always operated this way.
So, this picture documents a first. We both took oranges to work and brought home the peels. We have a good way of disposing of them at home. In fact, as we were throwing things away at work that we'd normally compost or recycle at home, it got us thinking.
Why did our behavior change based on context? Why weren't we composting or recycling at the same level as when we were at home? Well, there's a reason for that. @danariely talks about that in his book #predictablyirrational . He ran an experiment on sex and arousal asking questions like "would you enjoy sex with someone you hate?", "Would you consider foregoing a condom if you knew she'd change her mind on the time it took you to get one?" He asks these questions when they're not aroused (but asking them to answer as if they are) and then a second time while they actually are aroused (I won't go into the details here). What he found was that passionate emotions highly impacted their behavior and even went against what they predicted they would do.
He mentioned how instead of talking about the biology of sex, that we should talk about emotion and passion because those emotions override our logic in the moment.
How does this apply? Examine your emotion throughout the day and how it relates to your behavior. At work, we were back in an environment where others operated just as we used to operate, making our commitment seem out of place. So, now that we're aware, it's so much easier to stick to our habits at work!
My dreams of becoming a professional tree-hugger are coming true!! 🌳💛 I recently started working with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and it’s honestly the best job I’ve ever had. I’m working on organics reduction and recycling projects for NYS. Those of you that are familiar with some of the work I do with soup kitchens in this area know how I feel about feeding people. Now I get to work on making sure that any larger generators (school, hospitals, etc) donate their extra food to those in need. I’ll also be working on organizing composting efforts throughout the state and engaging the community in food waste reduction and recycling. Alhamdulillah (All thanks to God) and a big shout out to everyone that encouraged me for this opportunity. Looking forward to my potential future as a sustainability planner. #environmentalist#seedtotable#composting#urbanplanning#gradstudent
Gardening season is just around the corner 🌱
We’re no experts, but it’s something we enjoy doing organically in our yard. We love reaping the benefits of the harvest and it turned out to be a great learning opportunity for the boys last summer.
We have a compost bin. But did you know you can add crushed egg shells and coffee grounds directly to the soil?!? Now that the snow is melted, we’ve added it to the garden and will continue our collection until we plant!
