👖Y’all — it took me over a month but I finally finished these #gingerjeans and am so. dang. proud of myself for seeing it through. I’ve been telling this story a lot lately, but when I was in college studying textiles at NC State, one of my classes required us to sew a pair of jeans. That project completely broke my love of sewing. I was consistently the last one to leave class, the most confused one, the slowest one to finish each section, I struggled with it — hard. I never finished those jeans and I didn’t go back to the sewing machine for a long time after that experience. Well I have to say, as I look down at these dapper denims perfectly tailored to fit my body I am feeling vindicated. Huge thank you to Heather at @closetcase.patterns whose online workshop I watched every step of the way, replaying and rewinding and replaying and rewinding (is rewind still a valid word?) for hours as she talked me through all of the pressing and top stitching and hammering and pressing some more. I’m not sure I would have summoned the courage without you! ❤️🙏 These gingers feel extra special to me, as they’re made with @conedenim that was milled in my hometown of Greensboro, NC before the mill shut down last year. If you ever see Cone denim in a fabric shop, buy it! It’s like gold. And after learning so much about denim by making these jeans, I’m able to appreciate its quality that much more. ❤️ So beyond thrilled to be able to cross this one off my #makenine2018 list! 👖💪🏼
#makeyourstash Closet Case Patterns Ginger Jeans made with fabric bought in Paris last summer, specifically to make Ginger jeans. The denim is super stretchy - it is 60% cotton, 35% elastane and 5% lycra according to the label that was on the bolt. I am pretty pleased with them but there are still a lot of wrinkles that I can't identify. These pictures were taken after a day of wear and I think my boots might be causing some of the wrinkles.
The dark side of handmade gifts from me is that I force you to model them 🤫 Made my mom this @closetcase.patterns Kelly Anorak our @robertkaufman Ventana Twill for Christmas and she very generously allowed me to photograph it. #kellyanorak#closetcasepatterns#robertkaufmanfabrics

I am still amazed realising how I’ve got better with my sewing skills every time I challenge myself to try something new.. this time, I chose the hidden placket for this shirt 💙 Thank goodness I didn’t stuff it up 😬 hopefully it turns out as I imagined it to be.. ✨✨ light drapey cool looking shirt that suits my relaxed lifestyle🤞🏽 #kalleshirt#closetcasepatterns
Trying to sew a #handmadewardrobe to give myself a bit of a boost as I haven't yet come to terms with my #postpartumbody . The #kalleshirtdress has potential being essentially a fashionable sack dress, but I accidentally made the hem too short after having issues with the bias binding. The colour is gorgeous, but this weird spongey mystery polyester was awful to sew and I'm not sure it'll get wear until I lose weight. Ugh. Back to the sewing machine...
The sun came out, so I braved the snow to take a few pictures of my most recent Ginger jeans. This is my fourth pair, and I think I have perfected the fit. These are a size 8, skinny legs, with 1” taken off the higher rise. In some denim I have to narrow the seam allowances at the calf, but this denim from @threadbarefabrics had enough stretch that I didn’t need to this time. You can see some wrinkles behind the knees in these photos, but I think that’s mainly an effect of having to jam them into snow boots. ❄️ I love jeans making, and even though I have made multiple Gingers and Morgans by Closet Case Patterns, I’m itching to make even more. Any patterns that I should try next?
Love my new Kelly Anorak! Bright yellow Kaufman Ventana twill, lined with a plaid shirting. After my first waterproof version, this one was a breeze. Getting to use pins is such a treat! Already dreaming up plans for a third, unlined version. See the 4th picture for how I will never style it (but had to try): paired with my Lander Pants using the same fabric. Kind of has a firefighter look to it. 💛
Me trying to take selfies in my hotel room of my #kalleshirtdress before I go to my grandpa’s 90th birthday. Maybe I’ll get some better ones in the wild while I’m there. I’m super happy with this super comfortable dress. I in love with this print from @blackbirdfabrics and the simple lines of this dress with hidden button placket really shows it off. #closetcasepatterns
Another pair of jeans finished. This time #morganjeans by @closetcase.patterns .These ones are made from denim with very little stretch which I bought a few months ago from @stitchybeeuk. They have some really nice features such as the button closure on the fly and the rectangular coin pocket. They are a bit looser than gingers and overall I prefer them, although I will make some small changes to the fit on my next pair. #sewingjeans#closetcasepatterns#topstitching#handmadewardrobe#sewersofinstagram
