So very relatable today.😂
I’m normally super into Xmas, I love the lights, the movies, the FOOD, the shitty annoying songs that I absolutely punish people with (haaaa). But most of all I like having Xmas in the summer with time off to spend with friends and family.❤️
I’m normally super organised cos I hate to last minute shop with all the other crazed last minute shoppers. However this Xmas threw some curve balls my way. On top of being busy with work a good friend passed and I’ve been grieving him this week. Then I got sick (but it’s summer wtf?!). And so today I found myself in *gasp* the mall!!! It was horrendous.😫
For a giving time of year people can be real dicks to each other. I didn’t practice today because I’m still feeling super crummy so to de-hulk myself after the mall and the traffic I had a relaxing shower where I did some nice long deep belly breathing. Voila back to being a regular(ish) human again.🤗
Despite all the chaos leading up to Xmas I’m still looking forward to having the fam over on Xmas day and I’m more than ready to slow down for a couple of weeks!❤️
What’s everyone else up to for the holidays?🎄

I’ve decided to start sharing about people I follow that I find inspirational as a bit of a Wednesday thing.☺️
First up the lovely A.D.❤️
@drazcula has found pole as an awesome way to express herself, learn new skills and get a killer workout in one! She has been on a steady lifestyle overhaul for the last 3 years. A combo of clean eating (but still treat yo self) and exercise, also the women loves to meal prep! And my god does it show, flick across for an awesome progress shot. 😳
A.D also works full time running the mental health unit at a big Sydney hospital, is a trained psychotherapist AND has just handed in her thesis for her masters degree (she has several degrees). I honestly don’t know how you do it all, I bow down!
It’s been so cool watching you become a stronger, fitter and healthier you @drazcula ! ⭐️
I love seeing people that are passionate about their thing! If you haven’t found the thing that makes you’re heart burst with joy, keep looking, it’s out there. 😌
How good is this long weekend? 😍👌
What have you been up to ?
Today I went and did a hike. It was maybe 10 levels harder than I wanted and planned but I did it 🙆♀️👊💪
I was planning to turn around and walk back down because I was tired, sore and my mind was tricking me to give up.
For those that don't know. The Yoga-Hikes started because I cannot hike 😂🙈 or do cardio 😁
I struggle with that sort of training and today I felt extremely challenge, but I did it and my mantra was : I NEVER EVER GIVE UP. And I didn't it.
It was satisfying finishing after feeling like crying half way there.
Also I've learnt that I rather hike with my tribe! ☝️ So keep ya eyes open because our third hike is coming. I need you all because yoging together is better but is the same for hiking. I knew that if I had you all there I would of done it without noticing that I was doing it 😂
Also for the first time in 3 years I won't be teaching on Labour weekend. 😲 I know right? big deal! but I decided to energize for the upcoming weeks because we have lots coming !
I will be back on Tuesday 🤗
at Ara Institute 6pm or 715pm 😙
Enjoy the sunshine!
School of Wellbeing 2.0 😍
Thank you for having me @aracanterbury and @_savvy_is_the_name_ 🤗🙆♀️🙅♀️ Thank you for giving me the space to talk about my passion and how I cope with life and the things I do and use to improve my mental health 😍 I love sharing my experiences with the community to share that we are all the same and that we are not alone ! ☝️
It was awesome to share this experience with my friend and incredible artist @jazzkeyscoulson !
It was so cool to hang out with @bounce.org.nz crew too!
oh man ! We live in a cool community! I feel so inspired and excited to carry on the journey!
Until the next one ! 🙏✌
If you want me to join your school or workplace for a talk book at firstname.lastname@example.org this talk will include hugs ! smiles and a lot of fun! 😁
A compilation of my fav hip exercises to help increase mobility, strength and flexibility. Great for warm up or cool down! If you're a martial artist and have tight hips, add these to your daily arsenal and let me know how your hips are feeling after a few weeks 🙏🏽
1) Hip rotations with hamstring stretch using strap/belt. Start with small circles and gradually grow to your max, then change direction and slowly decrease circle size. When you reach stillness begin to draw the leg toward you, you can bend the knee if you're super tight in your hamstrings. 👌🏼
2) Hip rotations using hands to guide. Rest hands on knees, guide knees away from body, then apart and begin to draw back towards body and close knees. Do several rotations and then change direction. Move slowly with your breath. 😊
3) Happy baby pose. Soles of feet face ceiling, knees head towards shoulders (aiming to open through hips). Look for long spine along the floor. If hips are tight hold on behind your knees or grab ankles. 👼🏼
4) Goddess pose/ wide squat. Elongate spine, engage core. Keep hips low, try rocking from side to side, up and down. Experiment with lifting one heel from the floor and leaning toward that hip. Awesome for finding space through hips and strengthening simultaneously. 👍🏼
5) Skandasana/ side lunge. Try to keep heel on the floor or work towards that. Be kind to the knees, don't go so deep if they're sensitive. I'll move in and out for a while and then pause on each side for up to a minute. Awesome for flexibility in hips and hamstrings. 😇
6) Malasana/ deep squat. Aiming for hips low, long spine (life your heart), heels on floor if you can. Start by gently guiding one knee away and allow the heel to lift from the floor. Rock from side to side (skip if too much for knees) and then settle into the squat. Good for low back tension too. ⭐️
If anyone needs more detailed explanation hit me up in the comments or dm. Sped up x2💜
And we've done it again 😍☕🍔🙃💪🥞🙏
Yoga and Breakfast 🤗👌
Best way to kick off Mental Health Awareness Week 💜💛💚💙
We've ticked off two steps of wellbeing.
Connect + Be Active 💪👊 Today we connected to others, while yoging together at the same time we connected to ourselves.
We had amazing food all together. Meeting new people and catching up with our old friends 🤗
Mental Health Awareness menu is followed by Lunch time class 12-1 pm at Ara Institute. Open to ANYONE!
Over the last 13 months I have learnt that I do not need to deal with pain by myself. That I can reach out for my friends and that I can be there for them too. I've learnt that I am not alone when I feel overwhelmed. Running a social enterprise is my passion, working with youth and the community is what feeds my soul however there are times that this can be stressful, but knowing that I have a beautiful support network makes it all easier.
Yogis and non yogis. You are not alone and your stress or anxiety does not define you.
Let's start the conversation.
Sending love to you all!
See you at 12pm
😍 Yogi love ❤
💙Troy and Clo 💜
The beautiful faces behind @bacon_brothers_co
I have a special love for these two. Apart from being extremely kind and incredible people they are real.
I was talking to a good friend last night about that. About being real. Showing our flaws and embrace them, instead of pretending.
Troy and Clo are committed to invest in their love making sure they do something for themselves everyday.
It is hard when these kids work 100000 hours a week, but so far so good! Yoga with me is part of their routine, even when tired they show up, and to support each other they hold each other, like in the photo.
They are practicing kindness to each other and trying really hard to balance work and life, I think they do awesome, they probably don't give enough credit to each other.
Clo and Troy are one of my favourite couples ever! Their love is so fresh and funny, they are real to each other and to anyone on their path. I have learnt so much from them already. This is the kind of love I seek for, the real one, the raw one, the kind one. No pretending, allowing themselves to be who they truly are. It is what I stand by in any relationship, romantic, friendship even when it comes to business.
Thank you for teaching me so much while I am teaching you.
Thank you for your support and unconditional friendship and love.
Love you both so much!
So much love 😍 of the good one!
PS: Make sure that the ones that you love know it today! Friends, partners, family... and if you think that you already told them. Remind them! 🙏
Repost from @general.tomfoolery
We love friends! Kotte found a perfect matching hat for her outfit and the walk behind her!
I love bumping into friends but also into pretty hats 👒 mainly if they go with my whole outfit 😂 wait and the whole wall too! 😍
Have you check out Streets For People party? You better go to see my friends from @general.tomfoolery and get your coolest items from them!
Thank you girls for showing me the pretty hat! 😙👒
We have been waiting for a long time for Social Enterprise World Forum and the day is finally here!!!!! The biggest forum since the earthquakes 😍 😎🙆
I will be running two events for Transitional City that you are all invited to, with the purposed of helping the youth.
I also be yoging with the delegates during the next 3 days of the forum 🤗🙅
What is even cooler that I will be the only fitness person representing the industry ! 💃 So wish me luck and if I don't get back to you, you'll know why! 🙈
I will still run our two evenings classes at Ara. Ensure your spot and book! www.yogabykotte.com
Omg you guys, Four years married today! Eight years together..😳
I'd love to tell you I married my soul mate but I don't believe in that shit haha. I'd love to say that every day I fall more in love with my husband and that every day is a blessing and we are this amazing perfect couple blah blah blah.. But that would be a lie because perfect doesn't exist and we are real people. 👫
I'm lucky that I married by best friend who truly gets me and I can be myself with him 100%. I'm grateful to have the love and unconditional support of SJB to follow my dreams and be happy. I love his family as my own. We have three fur babies together and he is the best fur-dad I know. 😻
We've had a rough time this past year but our love for each other and the commitment we made in front of our closest family and friends on 21/09/13 keep us going through the hard times. It's always important to put in work on yourself so you can give your relationships (not necessarily de facto, friendships too) the love and attention the deserve. 💜
We celebrated yesterday by taking the day off to go to Hanmer Springs for a hot stone massage and a soak in the thermal pools. It was serene and just what we needed. ☺️
Hope you're all having a fab day! 😘
Change always has elements of pain 🦋
Yesterday I had an action packed day! I attended a Goddess Gathering with a group of wonderful women lead by @tonesyogapilates and @bridzsinclair We shared with each other, meditated, ate bliss balls, drunk herbal tea and put feathers in our hair. Thanks ladies that got me off to a great start for my day! 💜
We as women need to do better. We need to be kinder to each other, more compassionate and supportive. Judging and criticising one another gets us nowhere and just makes us feel less than. Don't cut down the tall poppies, feed them, water them, nourish them and then allow your own poppy to bloom 🙏🏽
Straight from the gathering to a teachers practice @flowhotyoga where we were introduced to yoga therapy. The quote at the top was from Vincent who lead us through the practice. This really resonated with me - change always has elements of pain - whether that be physical, emotional or psychological. Change can be hard, whether you're trying to lose weight, remove a bad habit, unwind holding patterns in your body or trying to improve your mental health, it's not easy! Put in the work but be kind to yourself, accept yourself as you are, be grateful for what you already have and the rest will fall into place 🙏🏽
Sorry for the long post! Felt inspired after yesterday's learnings ☺️ .
I'm always so stoked to hold a handstand, even if just just for a few seconds ☺️
I've been struggling lately. With social media, with life in general. I'm ok, have just been taking some time out to spend with myself and loved ones. 💜
I think as humans we all crave connection right? When I first started this account I really wanted to connect with other people with similar life philosophies and interests as mine. That's still my hope but it seems harder now to connect with real people who aren't just in it to get a follow back or sell you something. And that has got me bummed out and unmotivated to post.. 😣
So I just want to take a sec to thank all the amazing people I have made genuine connections and friendships with over this platform. Some of you I have met in real life and those I haven't met, we are in contact often and I love seeing your posts and watching your stories. I'm grateful for all of you @earthtomalka @bonniereneefenwick @amyfenwick @kapitiyoga @zanavandorp @tarshnzyogi @jessthehappytherapist_ @yogaforanxiety @simone_lena_yoga 💙💜💙
On Saturday I supported and watched one of my peers go through his black belt test🥋
Black belt gradings are always emotional for me, it instantly takes me back to mine and how much hard work, courage, love, sacrifice, discipline and practice goes into such an achievement. And it's not just an individual effort either, so much behind the scenes support from training partners, instructors, team mates, family, friends and colleagues all play a role in the journey to passing a black belt test. I know I couldn't have done it without my support system, especially when I wanted to quit 😌
My wee kiddies all passed their belt test promotions too! So proud of the lil ass kickers 💜
Chch peeps! I'm holding a fundraising self-defence and yoga workshop on Saturday July 1 9.30-11.30am. If you're interested I still have some spaces available. All funds raised go to the guy holding the pad for me in the picture! We are raising money for Darren's brain tumour treatment in Germany 🙏🏽 Send me an email or dm if you want more info 😘😘
Sometimes we can get so caught up in our goals that we don't stop to see how far we've come 🦄
This time last year I was preparing for my big trip to Bali to do my yoga teacher training. I was shitting my pants over it and thought about not going often. The day before I left I was so terrified I couldn't stop crying! It's so funny to me now because that trip was such a pivotal point of my life and everything has changed since I got back 🦋
Almost a year on from Bali and I'm living the life I imagined over four years ago. I get to share my passion with others and connect with so many different people from all walks of life. I feel so lucky to be able to do that 🙏🏽
Sometimes I feel like I'm flailing about madly and nothing is moving or changing because I keep moving my goal posts. We often achieve a goal and then quickly move onto the next one without taking the time to appreciate our achievement. Then it feels like we aren't getting anywhere.. we feel bogged down and can lose our momentum. When I stop and actually see just how far I've come it makes me not only happy and content but also motivated and excited for the future. Make sure you take a moment to celebrate your achievements today, no matter how small 😊
Holy crap I turned 30 today!! 😱
In honour of my b'day I thought I would share a couple of hilarious photos from my childhood (scroll across)! The second photo, circa 1987, six months old. No I'm not wearing a wig, that was my real hair, my mum had to start cutting it at three months because it was growing over my eyes!! The last photo was from 1990 rocking a serious 90s power fringe (thanks mum). Also for fun I'm going to share ten random facts about myself 😋. .
🎂I can count to ten and say basic greetings etc in five languages - English, Maori, Korean, French and Thai. But I am only fluent in English.
🎂Rain on the roof is my favourite sound.
🎂My death row last meal would be lasagna with a side of french fries.
🎂I cry every time I watch The Simpsons movie, twice! Once when Marge leaves Homer and again when they make up.
🎂I am possibly Hugh Grants biggest anti-fan. I really can't stand that guy! 😂
🎂I pestered my mum into taking me to a martial arts class after watching The Karate Kid in the early 2000s. That's how I got started in Taekwondo.
🎂I did my degree in Biological Sciences with an endorsement in ecology. I'm passionate about conservation biology and evolutionary biology.
🎂I was a very keen scuba diver and had just got my license only to find out I have an ear condition that prevents me from doing it anymore - that's how I found SUP Yoga!
🎂I hardly drink alcohol at all. Not for health reasons although that's a plus - There is such a huge drinking culture in NZ that often, rather than explain myself, I pretend to drink by sitting on one beer for ages or disguising soda as booze to avoid all the questions and peer pressure.
🎂My celebrity crush is and always will be Leonardo DiCaprio, dad bod and all 💜
Thanks to those who read this whole post! Also thank you and welcome to my new friends! If you want to share some random facts about yourself tag me in the post, I would love to learn about you guys! 💚 .
