Charlton House is one of the finest surviving Jacobean manor houses in England.
The house was built with great precision to detail, both inside and out, using red brick which was characteristic of the time, with white stone dressing. The imposing oak fireplace in the Jenkins Room bears the date 1612.
Extensive renovations were carried out in the 1830’s by Sir Thomas Maryon-Wilson, including installing a bathroom, wardrobe rooms and then later the minstrel gallery.
Charlton House played a vital role during the First World War. As the Divisional Headquarters of the Red Cross for Greenwich and Woolwich, working parties raised funds for the war effort and supported the soldiers at the front by collecting gifts and donations. Lady Maryon-Wilson stood as Vice President.
In 1995 while playing for #Charlton , #Pardew was loaned out to #Tottenham . But while he did not make any league appearances with the #Spurs , he did play in 4 #UEFA Intertoto Cup matches, one of which was recorded at the worst loss in their history, 8-0 trashing to FC #Köln
