When a piping hot potato sabji is transferred from the pan to the plate, the spicy aroma itself is mouth watering. And then make a heap of chapatti. Life is beautiful.
Day 10 of my 21 days with a family of Ayurvedic doctors in Kerala.
This grain is the fifth most commonly grown crop in the world after wheat, rice, corn and barley. But this delicious, gluten-free grain often gets overlooked in Western diets.
Ayurvedically, sorghum reduces Kapha.
•It is full of calcium that keeps your bones and teeth healthy
•It helps lower your bad cholesterol and keeps your heart healthy
•It helps in controlling diabetes, arthritis and body weight
•It is full of phosphorus and potassium that gives you a lot of energy
•It is recommeded in cases of obesity.
Despite having eaten five(!) each of these sorghum chappathis in a road-side restaurant in beautiful Mysore, Karnataka, we did not feel full.
Not pancakes (husband made them) but I thought it has been quite some time since we had rotis/chapattis an Indian flatbread, at home.
So tonight on the menu for the family was Palak (Spinach) Paneer, delicious with onion seeds and we had this with Rotis.
The bottom right picture is me, age 5 making rotis with my mummy next to me. Same age my eldest is right now and I can definately see the resemblance and it's not even the glam onsie I am wearing!
