#WUTop351990ToNow - 30) Terry Funk ; an icon to wrestling through the 70s and 80s with his southern style, traditional and well skilled approach. He became a major star for All Japan Pro Wrestling and later made a rather huge impact in WCW, having a 5 Star Match with Ric Flair in 1989. However, this list is from 1990 onwards and Funk was now into his 50s. Unlike most people who retire around this age, he changed his whole style up and became a hardcore wrestler. He helped Eastern Championship Wrestling turn to Extreme Championship Wrestling and under Paul Heymans direction he had fitted into this god tier role. The most amazing thing was he had generations of fans, it was a major reason why they would want to tune into ECW now, to see what he can do. ECW fitted into the grungey, punk style culture of the 90s. Funk also had a protege under the name of Cactus Jack, who we now know all about. They became infamous with eachother just like Funk had with his brother Dory back in All Japan. Funk entered the IWA Japan and King of the Death Match tournaments really proving a commitment to his new direction. He was also involved in some insanely brutal ECW matches. All of this helped the product to a great deal at the time and he could be seen on the level of a G.O.A.T to wrestling. His success had WWF and WCW wanting him during their highest peaks of Monday Night Wars. Some entertainment came from his work with the Mainstream companies but he had mainly cemented his legacy through the unconventional route of ECW.
