Always wondered why black history month was chosen on February. So I Did alittle research and found out-the the precursor to black history month was created in 1926 by an American Historian Carter G. Woodson. He was the founder of the Association for the Study of Negro and Life history. • • • • • • • • • • •
Woodson was basically bothered by the fact that many textbooks and other historical reviews minimized the contributions of black figures. So He dedicated his career to the field of African history and lobbied extensively to establish Black History month as a national institution. • • • • • • • • • • •
February was specifically chosen in honor of historical leaders, Abraham Lincoln and Fredrick Douglass- both whose birthdays were in the month of February. (Lincoln, February 12th; Douglass,February 14th) And from there this led many mayors and college campuses to recognize and consider this week very important. Also, with enough support from other (white) leaders- it allowed the occasion to stretch throughout the entire month. • • • • • • • • • • •
I celebrate being black everyday (not in the literal sense of course), but our history is wayyyyy too deep just to be recognized in one month. But this is why February is considered black history month. Thanks to Carter G. Woodson for the nationwide recognition. (Even though they still hate our guts) #blackhistory#cartergwoodson#blackeveryday#blackeverymonth ✊🏾
Although this comes in good spirits and humor, I am DEAD ASS SERIOUS!!! It has been WAY to long for our #blackculture to be so receptive of its OWN culture and embrace it. But what baffles me is that we only cared to display our #royalty for the epitome of entertainment. Keep in mind that through entertainment is how “they” and society had the ability to brainwash us into thinking that who we are and what we are should only be for a moment of time. Nah, f*ck all that!!! WE ARE ROYALTY 🤴🏿👸🏿
It should never take a movie 🎥🍿 to allow you to see and know who you are.
So to all my #black#culture PLEASE I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE you to keep our ROYALTY alive!!! Keep that shit going! Whatever it is that makes you feel and look empowered... GO FOR IT!!! Rock ALL that beautiful shit!
Let’s #respect#wakandaforever ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿
