I got the Koa click pen done and then a matching set of Curly Bigleaf Maple credit card pen and secret compartment key chain.
It is such a nice day (for March in Seattle) that I had to play with taking the photo in natural light. You can also see the beautiful blue sky in the second photo. It's a nice reprieve from the rain.
I turn with the garage doors open; what do you do when the weather is nice?
What an insanely exciting day today turned out to be. Searching offer up for trees I came across a one hour old post for free maple wood. The first picture was of a burl but i never would have imagined it would be so large! This beauty got pulled 15ft through an obstacle course of logs, bushes and a fire hydrant with a 6k winch my best friend john and some ratchet straps. It was an insane 2 hour fight to get her loaded and I still can't believe we did it but I can't even tell you how excited I am.
QUESTION! How would you cut this beauty? Like a regular slab or cookie cut??? I'm thinking regular cut but maybe someone can argue otherwise?

We have been progressively planting a vineyard on our property over the last few years.....along with several decent sized gardens. Unfortunately, in order to make this happen, we had to remove a couple nice Big Leaf Maple trees. Now is the point, where hindsight fully kicks in!.......10 Years ago when we first started improving our property, I was just a General Contractor, and had not yet started the lumber milling phase of my career........this was also the point at which we thought it was a great idea to secure our goat fencing to whatever tree happened to be most conveniently located..lol!.....actually not really "laughing out loud" right now... Usually I am cussing out some farmer or homeowner that nailed a sign, or attached a fence, to a tree 50-100 years ago.......Oh boy...we did a number on this one real good! All of the orange spray paint spots are where the fence and/or staples are fully sucked a few inches into the sapwood. I guess we really didn't want those goats to escape! Either way, this maple has 6' diameter of burl at the base, where it meets the soil line. We tried digging out the roots with an excavator, but it wouldn't budge. I just decided to cut it as low to the ground as possible, so we could tip it over. I will probably go into the ground with a carbide chain, and try to cut out the remaining burried burl chunks....they will make nice knife scales, turning blanks, etc....you name it. Nothing will be wasted, and this tree will get to live on, and be appreciated by many!
Very excited to introduce a new product. Despite our name indicating we have a lane lined with alders...we also have hundreds of big leaf maples on our property. The sugar content of our local sap is waaaaay lower than out east, about 60 litres of sap to make 1 litre of syrup. #liquidgold#bigfires @beneaththebarkstudio is our son who is the mastermind of making his dad sit by the fire days on end to bring you this amazing local product #maplesyrup available @cvfarmersmarket
B.C Big Leaf Maple Syrup - available very soon! Our local maple tapping season is almost over, with some beautiful runs of sap producing another world class batch of syrup. Darker and richer in flavour than typical eastern maple, this syrup is truly incredible. Bottles can be requested through the link in our bio 👍🇨🇦🍁❤
Decided what to do with it. I’ve seen some really cool resin river style tables from guys like @blacktailstudio, @waywardgrain, and @modernhabitatshawaii. I wanted to fill this center with an #ocean of blue resin. If anybody sees a critical flaw in this set up, I invite any constructive criticism. 🤙🏽
Just another beautiful maple tree I'm in the process of bargaining for :) one day this business will allow me to go forward with vengeance on obtaining these trees and saving them from the likes of firewood. When i got to this tree a guy there said he just bought the tree for firewood and I really can't explain how that made me feel. My heart just sank in a helpless feeling for this beautiful tree that deserves so much more! As it turns out that guy was lying to me just to turn me away but I do believe he wants it for firewood and now I may spend a bit more than I want trying to save it from happening like that. This passion is so real and strong it drives me to make large commitments in hopes of preserving the beauty of these trees. #theloveisreal#iwillhugitbeforeicutit#natureisamazing#pnw#bigleafmaple#salvage#maple#trees#ilovetrees#thisismycalling
