The pact delineated the spheres of interest between the two powers, confirmed by the supplementary protocol of the German–Soviet Frontier Treaty amended after the joint invasion of Poland. It remained in force for nearly two years, until the German government of Adolf Hitler ended the pact by launching an attack on the Soviet positions in Eastern Poland during Operation Barbarossa on 22 June 1941.
The clauses of the Nazi-Soviet Pact provided a written guarantee of non-belligerence by each party towards the other, and a declared commitment that neither government would ally itself to, or aid, an enemy of the other party. In addition to stipulations of non-aggression, the treaty included a secret protocol that divided territories of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, and Romania into German and Soviet "spheres of influence", anticipating "territorial and political rearrangements" of these countries.
The acknowledgment of the secret pact was the main reason and motive for the three baltic states to seek the disolution of the Soviet Union after the Glassnost doctrine was implemented... #wwii#sovietunionmemes#russians#germans#blitzkreig#barbarossa#sovietunion#nazionalism
German soldiers taking a russian soldier POW (prisoner of war) during the early stages of operation barbarossa. The first days where a disaster for the red army. The red army knew that they could expect a invasion but stalin only dirigated a couple divisions to the border. 24 hours before the invasion came the order to bring all units into combat readines but because of bad infrastructure, it took hours to reach the HQ for the border troops. By this time, the HQ needed to relay the orders to all the divisions but many never received any orders because communication lines where cut off by the luftwaffe bombardements. When the infantry crossed the border, border troops where still sleeping in their bunkers and résistance was almost non-excisting.

Finding out the "Barbarossa" has been quite hard. After all the background city was Frankfurt, right in the middle of old Europe. A metropolis made of banks, skyscrapers, airports open to the world. Beating heart of the new economy.... but the Barbarossa was one of those place where time doesn't matter. Were you won't find yourself accidentally, where you could even meet Corto. You are walking in front of the windows, mindless. Something hits you, but you keep walking near the colorful little glass squares.... before you can even realize, you are slowing down, until a song, which in that place is always the same, brings you inside. The old woman at the counter is drafting you a beer. Only the Lord can knew since how long she's there. With her rag and her stormy eyes. Maybe before the city itself.... yow are waiting in front of the counter, between bells and old boxing gloves, guns and helms pending from the roof. There is even a leather hat. But you know you have already choose your stool. a little bit a part but that "from there I can see all around" .... while the beer flows someone is keeping the old jukebox alive, choosing the same old song again and again. You find yourself wondering, writing on a piece of paper, a towel maybe. Lost out of time.... suddenly you notice it's already 4 o'clock. and the outside world is calling back for you. You leave your stool. Pay with some coins which are not from your country. You cheer with a nod... and you are outside, looking for the next magical place.
