When I first started Ladygroove I had a moral struggle with posting naked images online. I’m glad I did. If it wasn’t something I was at least considering and understanding my beliefs on then I wouldn’t feel totally human. 8 years ago I believed that naked bodies were only to be seen between spouses and that nudity shouldn’t even be in museums. Fear much?! I was a very kind human and a lot of fun to be around but I had some untrue beliefs about bodies and lust and what my responsibility was as a woman. I still think a lot about modesty and even more so about privacy (these are great topics to contemplate) but I can now unabashedly post naked images of women and feel no struggle in my conscious. My work is not objectifying. All women are consensual. Bodies are not shameful. We do not have to be terrified or threatened by a woman feeling connected to her sexuality. I find there to be a really big difference in images shot where a woman feels ripe with her own love for herself vs when she is explicitly being shot for consumption. I felt compelled to start Ladygroove even before I had worked out my beliefs and fears surrounding bodies and sexuality. Sometimes I felt like a fraud. I left a great paying job (shooting weddings) and trusted my gut. These women and this job have personally stretched me more than I imagined. And I hope my work gets to be in the MOMA one day where I thought it had no place or right to be.

Jeff’s been sending me pics of Aslan daily since I’ve been gone and this is, hands down, my favorite. Mid-yawn, at her water bowl, with sweet, sweet sunshine pouring in from all sides. Perfection.
I’m having a great time in New York but I miss my little family back home in Asheville. I’ll be home soon! 🐱 🐾 ❤️
Dumptrucks = Efficiency. I get tired of hauling compost in buckets and bags in my Honda CRV, so yesterday we got our first of many dumptruck deliveries at the farm. 24 yards — somewhere in the neighborhood of 30,000 pounds — of organic matter. It will be gone in a few weeks! We’re got a lot of ground to cover!
