Can't believe I'm going to be 20 this year!! No longer a teenager🙈😂
If you had asked me a year back where I would be in life, I would have never thought I would be here! Through all the ups and downs of 2017, this beginning of the new year has helped me develop so much as a person! I've met so many amazing people, including my online little fitfam💪🏼 you know who you are☺️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀
you're all so inspiring!
I've learnt the biggest lesson of all which is to never give up on yourself, even on the worst days, there is always someone who loves you and something to look forward too💓
Stay positive, keep your head up and focus on what really matters.. YOU!😉
I was feeling a bit crappy about myself yesterday.
I tend to get stressed easily. I'll get frustrated about little things that are outside of my control. I'm working on this so I can be healthier and happier, but it's not always easy.
Yesterday was one of the days it's not easy.
One of the girls is leaving work so the night before we went for a few drinks. Which is fine. But out of sheer habit I grabbed a takeaway on the way home. A takeaway I didn't even really want. Total mindless eating.
I don't know about you, but when that happens to me, especially if I have a day off the next day, it's really easy to say "I guess I'll just call it a cheat day" and before I know it I've eaten all the chocolate I can get my hands on.
This isn't a good idea, but it's not the end of the world.
However, couple that with frustration from feeling niggles from old injuries when I train, not feeling like I'm making progress in the gym, and not seeing the scale move, and suddenly its easy to let the mindset you've been working on cultivating slip. (And I know the scale shouldn't be the only measure of progress, I've told people that before myself, but sometimes it's hard to take your own advice.)
What helped yesterday was a couple of things.
First, I was scrolling through instagram and I saw @Mattynagle had a post up about feeling crappy and eating a jar full of nutella. He was pointing out how we're all human and we all slip up. "Just forget about it and get right back in the game."
Second, I read @Phillykinsella 's latest article (and you should read it, too). In it he mentions that you have to train yourself to think positively, and that it took him 15 months to develop the mindset he has today.
This reminded me of an interview with @Yancyculp where he said you have to choose your attitude every day. It's not always easy, but no matter how shitty things are or how great they are you have a choice.
So with all this in mind I popped on my headphones and opened my @headspace app. When I was done and I opened my eyes again, the quote on the screen was the one in the pic. (cont'd in comments...)
Fast feet drills for Tennis.
At APA one of the most important areas of speed we emphasise is First step speed.
We break this into:
The video above is an example of a fast feet drills using cones. There are literally hundreds of cone drills you could use. Haters will say there is no ball in the drill so it's not game specific. But just remember the goal is to "light up" the nervous system.
It's a great way to get the feet moving faster, getting on the balls of the feet and having to shift your centre of mass quickly. For the hundreds of athletes you work with who have "flat feet" or just appear to get stuck on their heels this is a great way to get them more athletic. It also has a lot less stress than plyometrics.
Thanks to @duglascordero for the ideas. Go check out his tennis drills!
A policeman has died after street brawls broke out between officers and rival football fans outside a Spanish stadium. Police in riot gear faced off against hundreds of fans outside the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao before a Europa League match on Thursday night between hosts Athletic Bilbao and Spartak Moscow.
