Day 20 #marchmeetthemaker - Tools & Materials - I’m absolutely addicted to art supplies, every time I visit an art shop I come home with some more to add to my collection!
My most recent additions are #windsorandnewton#promarkers 🖊
✨March 28th & 29th, 2017 ✨I went on a beautiful walk with my Mama yesterday and was able to take pictures of my sketchbook with beautiful backgrounds! This spread shows two very different drawings and offers a peek into how this drawing project worked for me on a daily basis. The one on the left was done while I was sitting in the @tridentboulder cafe. After wanting to do one of my daily drawings in there forever, I finally did! I sketched the man sitting across from me but by the time I brought my gouache paints out, he had left so I painted the background around him and left him in his pencil sketch form. I spent a long time on this drawing while slowly sipping on my Bhakti Chai! ☕️The one on the right was the beginning of a drawing that was interrupted (by someone? by my need for sleep? by a faulty pen? I can't remember anymore) and never finished. One is painted in and one is line work, one is meticulously completed and one was started and never finished. Everyday is different and the drawings I did each day really reflect that!
Behind the scenes: we've got Fran Brammer's sketchbook on display alongside her textile pieces so you can see her fascinating process! Can you believe these beautiful drawings are her rough sketches? #artasauthor
Since you all seemed to like the sketchbook page I shared a while ago ... here is another one.
This page is focused on one of my favourite aquatic plants; Nymphaeacae (water lilies). I love the beautiful radiating vein structures of lily pads and these structures have become the focus of several of my favourite embroideries.
Next time you encounter these aquatic herbs flip a leaf over ... there are often beautiful colours and patterns underneath the lily pads.
Who else is a water lily lover?
My friend who is about to give birth to a daughter expressed joy that she will grow up in the age of #metoo and #niunamenos . I made this piece to honor safe spaces in which women are free to express themselves with dress and dance. There is still so much work to be done. Today I learned of the assassination of @marielle_franco, Brazilian councilwoman and activist who spoke up about police brutality in marginalized communities. I honor her and those we’ve lost by listening to and uplifting my sisters among whom are women of color, trans women, and survivors. May we light the path for our sisters and daughters to come.
