17th of February 2008 - Kosovo Independence Revisited
10 photographers visit their archives of February 17, 2008, on the 10th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Kosovo. Their images show the preparations of that morning, the tension of a dream in realization, the joint feast, the hope for another life and the delirium of two million people who do not want to sleep. These are exciting images of a beautiful day in Kosovo.

The archive offices of @menilcollection wonderful to experience behind the scenes and see a telegram from Buckminster Fuller, a letter from Philip Johnson on @themuseumofmodernart stationery and letters between Rene Magritte and his Parisienne dealer. Archives are so cool, I’d forgotten how much I love “dialogue “ between artists and seeing their stories. You can experience these tours by becoming a member at The Menil. The archive is open by appointment to scholars and others interested in art. #art#archives#privatecollection#fun#houston#learning#grateful#beautyiseverwhere#correspondence#memories#information
#FBF at my show @iaahillyer in Washington DC in 2009❣️ It was my very first group show as a professional artist right after undergrad at MICA. It was called Six in the Mix and curated by the absolutely amazing warrior woman and my total sheroe, Renee Stout. I had just studied in a course called Traditional African Art Forms with Dr. Lesile King Hammond who is another fierce warrior woman sheroe and it was life changing for my practice and future nomadic journeys to The Continent and beyond. I was also still unpacking what happened in Spain in terms of the human trafficking and the sex trade. This was the early beginnings of The Uninvited Series and my obsession with drawing spermatozoa and disease as colonial entities 😳😜. It was almost a decade ago and I feel like I have come full circle as an artist and person in a very eerie way. Im still just as intense and thirsty for the truth. So humbled. Raised by warriors! #Trustyourjourney#Researcher#Archives#TheUninvited#Originstories#Behindthescenes 📸 by @phyliciaghee I think!!! 😂😘❣️
