Happy St Patty's Day- here's some green for ya!
So living in the desert of Baja California Sur, I've realized that plants only need two things- drought resistance, and super poky parts. Sometimes while hiking it seems like everything you touch wants to draw blood... But really though, the plants growing here are incredible!
This is Agave Deserti- its fibers can be made into clothes and rope, and the tough spines have been used as sewing needles.
Agave flower stalks, buds, and hearts can be roasted and eaten, and have been a staple for natives even in years of drought.
Living in the desert, you'd need to be resourceful, but the plants here have all you need- just be careful with the poky bits.
(OH, and stay away from the agave nectar you find it stores- it's highly processed, has zero nutritional value, and packs at least as much fructose as high fructose corn syrup! Ick.)
