I used to wish I was born a boy. There were so many rules to being a girl that I always found to be irrational and simply stupid. I used to think it would be easier being a boy and that the rules were simply unfair. I grew up as a tomboy. I felt uncomfortable in dresses and hated being told to act like a girl. I found it to be most advantageous and safe to fit in with the guys rather than be seen as girly, vulnerable and weak. This was and is all wrong. Women are everything but. Femininity doesn’t make women less than and it for sure doesn’t mean we are vulnerable or weak. I have been beyond blessed to be surrounded by strong, hardworking, intelligent and inspiring women who have taught me to strive fiercely and live passionately. I have become genuinely grateful to be born a woman. Let’s continue to stand side by side and raise each other up because as they say “real women empower one another rather than compete with each other”. Happy International Women’s Day to all you amazing women who define your lives as you please and to all the men that are doing their part in this journey, thank you 💕
Even on a set path, there are so many doubts and insecurities about whether or not we are going the right way. The destination may be far and nowhere in sight but trust yourself and trust your journey.
Day2: The rain couldn’t have worked more to our advantage than this day 🙏 We had the whole place basically to ourselves with the trainers who actually managed to teach @alijs28 and I how to somewhat snowboard 😂 Thanks @mycaseatbar and @zbsnanzie for convincing us to snowboard again! Also all the love to @alijs28 for helping me get my pants off even though we were both so sore and delirious from exhaustion ❤️
Day1: Of course we’d go snowboarding as it’s starting to feel like spring. Shout out to the kind workers at @windhammountain and apologizes to the poor people I took out along the way by accident of course 😂
Day8: When a free drink is included with every check in, you end up at The Singing Lamb Bar 👍 This is a Calafate Sour. It is made with a berry that can only be found in the southern parts of Chile. It tastes like juice 😋 We hiked in a cave and up a small mountain on our way back to Punta Natales but we weren’t entirely impressed unfortunately so this will do. Last day chilling in Chile. Salud.
And in the midst of it all, it’s amazing how you can actually forget that thousands of people live in these tenements.
At first you’re in awe because let’s be real, it’s an architectural orgasm and “one of the most instagramable places in Hong Kong” according to Google but as you continue to snap away and/or pose obnoxiously because you want a really cool shot, you start to realize that your actions are really out of place. Is it just me or do you also often come to this realization when you travel? Imagine someone stopped in front of your apartment or house and had a photoshoot. That’s basically what my friend and I did here.
There is a fine line between romanticizing a foreign city and appreciating it for the beauty of it. I can’t say I’m not guilty of the former. I have this seesaw teetering between wanting to solely capture the beauty of a place without knowing anything about it and wanting to capture an accurate depiction of the reality of a place by respecting the history and the now of it.
After a long shift at work, my mind drifts to my future travels, where I hope to be more mindful of my destinations so I can get a better picture of what stands before me to bring back home with me, literally and figuratively.
