We released this stunning Great Horned Owl yesterday 💗 She was initially treated at the @riverbankszoo with a large laceration on the left side of her body along with other wounds including puncture wounds. This type of trauma is consistent with injuries caused by another bird or predator. She was quickly transferred to @carolinaraptor center for additional treatments and rehab. After 49 days in rehab, she is now flying free! 🌿
Juevenile Ref-shouldered Hawk 🌿Full adult plumage and the red shoulder patches do not begin to develop until the second year. Sexual maturity occurs at around two years, but year-old birds have been known to breed.
