#TBT to International Women’s Day when Vivian Hunt, managing partner of our UK and Ireland offices, was formally named a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) for her services to the economy and to women. During her investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace, she shared: “I am humbled and proud to be recognized for this honor. Growing up in America, this was not the kind of thing I thought my future held. But I have lived in the U.K. for more than 20 years now, and to be recognized for helping this country, through McKinsey, is incredibly humbling.”
This weeks pick for Ladies We Love to celebrate those who inspire us is the one and only @marian_keyes Marian blows us away with her amazing writing. The way she tells the stories of so many women in her books and is such a fantastic advocate for mental health! She makes us laugh and cry. We fecking love her!
Meet Malaika Latimer, who works in Security Operations here at Bloomberg. We caught up with her in the pantry and asked her about the advice and people that keep her motivated.
If you could go back in time five years, what advice would you give to yourself?
If I could go back in time five years, I would tell myself to remember that every encounter I have with another person is a chance to network and that networking is as much about what you give as about what you get. While I have a strong network today, I could have a much stronger one if I started building it earlier!
Which living female do you admire, and why?
A living female whom I admire is my mentor and colleague, Alexis Roberts - Global Head of Bloomberg Security Technology. With over 25 years of experience in the Physical Security sector, Alexis has risen to the top of her male-dominated field over the years while raising her three sons - and has done so without losing herself in the process. If I can accomplish half of what she has so far, I will call it a win! #iwd#iwd2018#women#womenempowerment#womenhistorymonth#motivational#inspiration

In commemorating International Women's Day 2018, today's featured Canadian Tamil leader in the (broader) public sector is Trustee Juanita Nathan, Trustee (Wards 7 & 8) and Vice Chair, York Region District School Board.
Juanita is a resident of Markham, an elected school board trustee, a parent - student support worker, and a counsellor for abused women. She dedicates her time and energy striving to make positive changes in the lives of youth and women. Whether its helping students get their life on track or helping women cope with abuse, Juanita plays an instrumental role in the lives of many individuals and families. Her record on community involvement and grass roots engagement is exceptional. Juanita currently works with YOUTHLINK, Family Services of York Region and serves as the Vice Chair of the York Region District School Board.
When asked what #IWD2018 and #PressforProgress means to her, Juanita replied: “#PressforProgress means learning and growing from women who have gone before me to shatter the glass ceiling. Together with other women, continue to empower and build women to be the best version of themselves. It also means to make policies to inspire children to learn about the role of women in society and to celebrate their achievements.”
Women still face numerous hurdles to progress in STEAM fields. On #IWD2018 , luminaries convened at the #HARMAN and @1000DreamsFund Full STEAM Ahead event, held at the Flagship @harmanstore in New York City to discuss the importance of helping women early in their careers. http://bit.ly/2IwQb89 #PressforProgress#HARMANhigher#NewFaceofTech

Do you sometimes feel like you are cut out to do more with yourself??? Knowing so is one thing. Actually doing more is another thing. #CelebrateWomenDaily is a project we embarked on as part of my personal drive to do more. There have been reasons to not do it in the first place. There have been reasons to drop it in the past 3 or so days and move on. I have shouted on my editor @dennisdele1...I have grumbled to my writer @therebelkween and in the end I have chosen to #ProceedWithJoy regardless of any challenges.
Watch and listen to these lovely ladies tell you about being cut out to do more. the lovely @kitchenbutterfly we hosted @imoteda, @toni_hime, @sohmmie, @msevajohnson, @princessuvbi, @sashapofficial, @thedelphinator, @desireeiyorah

Marking the start of our astronomical spring we celebrate an astronomical lady! 💫 Jocelyn Bell Burnell is an astrophysicist from Northern Ireland who was credited with "one of the most significant scientific achievements of the 20th Century". ⠀
Whilst looking at the night sky Bell Burnell first to observe the celestial bodies known as pulsars. 🔭 A graduate student at the time her male colleagues took all the glory winning the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1974. Hmpf! 😤⠀
Many in the scientific community raised their objections, believing that Bell Burnell had been unfairly snubbed. She has since however gone on to receive countless awards and honours and continues to be a phenomenal human. We think she’s outa this world 👏👏👏 #womenshistorymonth

A little late for Women's Empowerment Day but ever since I was little Mulan has had a huge impact on me. I always thought it was so cool that she could do all the things the guys did- in fact she was better at it. And She freaking saved the world ? The symbol on my hand is the flower from Mulan's hair pin. . It was drawn with @rimmellondonsg Scandaleyes Eyeliner with primer as base. My eyes as well, were completed with the same products plus the Extra super lash Mascara ! #GRRLPOWER#RIMMELLONDONSG#IWD2018#sp
Here at foodPark, the #IWD2018 celebrations continue and we’ve got three more fantastic foodPark females to tell you about this week 🎉🎉🎉 .
First up, here’s Ally, owner and creator of Sweet Ally Scoops Vintage Ice Cream Van - our resident ice cream van and multi-award-winning business on the wedding circuit!
Ever since that first summer’s day back in 2015 when Ally’s gorgeous pink ice cream van – a converted 1973 Bedford CF van called Lottie – trundled along to our lunch market, Sweet Ally Scoops has been a huge hit at foodPark. Through hard work, determination, and massive belief and passion for her business, Ally has created something very special. Ally started the business after deciding to make a complete career change, after stints as a nurse and a police officer including ten years dealing with high risk domestic violence cases, and put her heart into the restoration of an old ice cream van. Ally put her own stamp on the van giving Lottie a delightfully fun and charming personality inside and out, stocked her freezer with the best locally made organic gelato, and Sweet Ally Scoops was born! 🍦🍦🍦 Find Ally at our foodPark lunch markets during the summer months - although we think Ally and Lottie bring sunshine to any occasion, whatever the weather 😍☀️
Stay tuned to our weekly line-ups for the return of @sweetallyscoops! ... #womensday#IWD2018#internationalwomensday#pressforprogress#foodPark#foodParkwomen#femalesoffoodPark#fPfemales
At the IBM Women Forum, Kamy, Amy, Jasmine and I met this really amazing woman. In the middle of us all is Chong Chye Neo, Managing Director of IBM Malaysia. I asked the panel a question about how women should handle self-doubt, and after the talk she told us stories and gave us advice: seek mentors, and overcome your fear by doing.
