Notice anything different on my resume? I’ll give you a hint: it’s three big letters that used to be “EMC”. I had the distinct pleasure of joining @ActorsEquity today, and I’m posting this ‘gram while in line for my first EPA as a member! Turns out Alternate List A is a lot like the EMC List. Just, y’know, a lot sooner. 🎭🎉😊
What an incredible gift to sit in the front row and see this man perform a 2 hour one man show. At one point he asked "What do you want?" And all I could think we "to be able to do THAT." Truly incredible.
SRO at today New Member Orientation hosted by the Membership Education Committee! Thanks for all who helped make his event a huge success👍🏻💪🏼ESP the new members who SHOWED UP. #equitystrong#equityworks
I wasn't gonna make a big deal out of this, but screw it. It IS a big deal.
Obviously, I've wanted this for a long time. And yet, when the opportunity arose, I hesitated for months, for all the usual reasons people hesitate, second-guessing whether I was "ready." Finally I decided that, yes, I'm definitely ready. More importantly, though, I realized that joining @actorsequity is the next logical step towards becoming the best possible advocate for performing artists, our careers, and our value to society. After all, I don't just want to make the world a better place through art; I want to make the world a better place FOR artists. And in order to do that, I need to walk the talk by placing a higher value on my own work and my own career and surrounding myself by likeminded empowered professionals.
The prospect of listening and contributing to important discussions about issues that affect the American performing arts community and the society we live in, is just as exciting to me as getting to audition regularly for Broadway shows. I plan to spend 2018 doing a lot of both, and I CAN'T. FREAKING. WAIT.
Because honestly? Life is too short for anything but the biggest dreams and the highest standards.
So. Here's to the future.
I love working hard. I love working strong. I love working joyously. I love working safe. And I love working here. There's nothing that informs what we do onstage like what we do, how we live, love, thrive and grow offstage. I live to work. And I love to live. #FortheBestOSF#EquityStrong
Thank you to our union colleagues for joining us in wearing red #ForTheBestOSF . The Equity company stands in solidarity with our negotiating team as they head back to the table this weekend. We look forward to working together with our employer to find an approach that works for everyone. #EquityStrong
As I prepare to go on again as understudy for the closing of #MerryWivesOSF tmrw night & tonight, am about to do my 98th #DreadGazeboOSF performance— I feel so thankful for my 1st season here at OSF, which has been a very eventful, very full & rewarding 9 months. Given the extreme physically & mentally demanding part of the Shapeshifter I’ve had the absolute privilege & joy to originate & play with all season, I’ve learned the fundamental value & vital importance of sustaining a healthy body & clear mind for 9 months straight. In order to do my job well for every single audience member who paid good money to see our beautiful show, I needed to diligently safeguard my time in between shows to replenish my reserves & energy, time to be by myself so I can stand in front of hundreds of people (& in the case of Merry Wives, thousands) & produce peak level artistry & creativity. That definitely came with its challenges, I must say. Because of the unique privilege OSF offers to be a longterm working actor— which is truly a hard reality to attain on a regular basis— our job includes other unofficial duties & roles that require even more energy, time, & mental & emotional capacity. We are also called to be educators, representatives, walking ambassadors for OSF & our shows, at post-show discussions, donor dinners, or just when we walk around & live as part of the Ashland community. I will fight to do it all to the best of my ability but to achieve that, I need to be given time & space to take care of my body, mind, & soul— or else I will have nothing to give. That’s the open secret for how we can do what we can do. I just need rest, recharging, & rejuvenation. And for that I need time & space to take a breath in my already full schedule here. Or else there’s no way I can sustain even a fraction of that for 9 months. That’s what I’m asking for in solidarity with my fellow @ActorsEquity members here at OSF. Because we truly ALL are striving #ForTheBestOSF#worklifebalance#CreationRequiresRejuvenation#EquityStrong#EquityWorks#LifeNeedsBreath#InspirationOnlyHappensWhenWeCanBreathe#TheSecretToArtistry#ArtIsLife // Repost from @jessicajko
I choose to start my day with a run in the forest that climbs over 1000’. The reward is a view similar to this one on a crisp forty degree morning. My reward for working hard on any of the 40+ plus productions in my time at OSF is quantifiably similar.
I love my work. I love to do it very well.
I want OSF to support my effort to do my work well. Doing my work well entails being able to focus on scheduling and communications to support each production I serve. Doing my work well is inhibited when I must cut corners with my schedule or multi-task through rehearsals or worse, performances.
Do not confuse our effort to focus and do our jobs well with laziness. We are not lazy. We are however subject to a scheduling model which is unsustainable.
I want OSF to LEAD the nation in supporting the artists it hires so that the work we present on our stages is without peer. I want OSF to embrace STEWARDSHIP, so I and my fellow artists – onstage and off- can drive one another toward EXCELLENCE in our craft.
I love to work hard.
I love to play hard.
Please share if you support this.

As my time at OSF comes to a close, I can't help but reminisce on my time in this amazing place. The work and the people are beautiful and I feel so blessed to have been given this opportunity. I'm also really, really, really tired. Working in rep is incredibly rewarding but also incredibly grueling and I stand with my AEA brothers and sisters who are negotiating for better work/life balance. We really can't do our best for OSF until we can have sufficient time and space to take care of ourselves. Let's keep fighting #ForTheBestOSF#equitystrong // Repost from @nceesay

I saw my first Shakespeare play at OSF at age 6. I started dreaming of working here at age 16. I was given my Equity card here at 23. I love this company immensely, which is why I support #ForTheBestOSF and our AEA contract negotiation efforts. I believe work-life balance allows me to do my best most sustainable work #ForTheBestOSF#EquityStrong // Repost from @zapthatmonster
I did get to meet someone famous! E. Faye Butler, Actor and Mary McCall, Executive Director of AEA were in Susan's office today! They wanted me to make sure everyone knows #equityworks and #equitystrong#flatstanleyproject
the last month has been a true test of my patience, my self control, my morals, my health, and my sanity. specifically the last two days have been truly difficult. but then, five minutes ago, i walked into @actorsequity and #gotcarded . so here we are. my life is messy but career-wise i'm doing just fine. and that motivates me to work harder to fix my life. #babysteps#hardwork#paysoff#equitystrong#booked
