The lymphatic system runs parallel to the circulatory system. Unlike blood, there is no pump to circulate #lymph ; it flows through the body via muscle movement. Lymph is a clear, fatty fluid produced by blood marrow, organs, and glands that moves throughout the body, carrying nutrients and removing waste that are too big to move through veins. The system is comprised of lymph nodes, vessels, and lymphoid tissues.
Lymph moves through the body and is filtered in the nodes. Lymphocytes in the nodes kill abnormal cells (cancer), viruses, and harmful bacteria. The liquid then transports the waste to the liver and kidneys for detoxification and subsequent removal through the excretory system.
Any intruders that the lymphatic system doesn’t recognize (e.g., toxic chemicals and pollutants) go along for the ride and are carried throughout the body, including in the blood and organs. This is why #cancer tests include a lymph biopsy: if cancerous cells are prevalent in lymph, it’s a sign that they exist in the organs as well. What the immune system (of which lymph is a huge part) can’t kill is transported and makes its way through the lymphatic system—this is how cancer can spread. #Drybrushing is an easy, affordable, at-home way to drain your lymphatic system -- scroll through the pictures to see how to dry brush your body for maximum benefits. An important thing to remember is to start at your feet and work your way up to your décollage. You can dry brush without oil, however, if you have sensitive skin you may experience a bit of redding of the skin; dry brushing with a soothing essential oil is a good way to mitigate this effect. Have a wonderful Sunday everyone! 😘💜🌸#PeopleHelpingPeople#CancerAdvice#RadiationAdvice#LetsTalkCancer#OpenConversation#DeborahZimmelTNBCFund#DZTNBCF#triplenegativebreastcancer#deborahzimmeltriplenegativebreastcancerfund#NonProfitOrganization
Sometimes it can seem like life is pulling us in a million directions all at once. However, throughout our lives we continue to need a place where we can go to relax, recharge, nourish the soul, and heal from the emotional pollution of our lives. Even so, most of us do little or nothing to recreate a rejuvenating environment for ourselves: When we neglect ourselves in this primal way, the soul is starved, and when we are malnourished spiritually, we become ill physically. I’m certain that every chronic or serious physical illness has a psycho-spiritual element supporting it. I’m not alone on this: Physicians from around the world have gathered anecdotal evidence that supports this fact. One of the most prevalent examples is #breastcancer and #selfless women. When I say selfless, I mean women who are constantly putting themselves last on the To Do list, or worse, not putting themselves on the list at all. 😱They’ll cancel their own plans to help a friend move, work an extra shift so someone else can take the day off, organize the church bake sale, run the PTA fundraiser, chauffeur the kids to basketball and ballet practice, and do about ten other things simply because no one else will. Individual acts of kindness are always appreciated, however, try to do something kind for yourself over this long weekend that replenishes and recharges your soul. It isn’t easy to calm your mind and relax, try to take slow, deep breaths, or breathing exercises, soak in a warm bath🛀, listening to soothing 🎶, practice mindful meditation 🧘♀️, writing your thoughts down ✍🏾,or use creative visualization. We hope you found some of these tips interesting -

Intravenous (IV) #vitamin C was studied in #patients with #breastcancer who were treated with adjuvant chemotherapy and radiation #therapy . The study found that patients who received #IVvitamin C had better quality of life and fewer side effects than those who did not. *This statement is from the #NationalCancerInstitute and can be found at cancer.gov
Unfortunately, there is no cure for cancer to this day and we can’t make any promises that a certain therapy or treatment will work for you and your diagnosis. It is always best to consult your doctor before you try any alternative treatment.
If you are considering trying an IV treatment along with #chemotherapy and #radiation , the main things to look for are experience and credentials, in both the medical director of the service and the individual administering the IV. Even with something as simple as an IV, practices can vary significantly from provider to provider based on experience—for example, do they let a metal needle sit in your arm for the duration of the drip or use a soft plastic catheter? Do they use local anesthesia at the IV site? Do they use inexpensive supplies or spring for nicer ones? Another thing to consider is the provider’s ability to handle emergency situations. IVs are certainly low-risk, but they aren’t risk-free. Adding any compound to a sterile drip carries some (very little, but some) risk of severe allergic reaction, and just because a provider is experienced in placing IVs doesn’t mean they have experience troubleshooting side effects or bad outcomes.

#GetToKnowUs What is #TripleNegativeBreastCancer and how is it different form other forms of #BreastCancer ? The #deborahzimmeltnbcfund is asked this question often... Let us explain: When a pathology report says that the breast cancer cells have tested negative for estrogen receptors (ER-), progesterone receptors (PR-), and HER2 (HER2-), means the cancer is *triple-negative.* These negative results mean that the growth of the cancer is not supported by the hormones estrogen and progesterone, nor by the presence of too many HER2 receptors. Therefore, triple-negative breast cancer does not respond to conventional therapies such as hormonal therapy (such as tamoxifen or aromatase inhibitors) or therapies that target HER2 receptors.
About 10-20% of all breast cancers — more than one out of every 10 — are found to be triple-negative. For doctors and researchers, there is intense interest in finding new medications that can treat this kind of breast cancer. Early studies are trying to find out whether certain medications can interfere with the processes that cause triple-negative breast cancer to grow. The #DeborahZimmelTNBCFund was created to help bring #awareness and focused #research for this disease. As the visible symptom of the trauma being undergone by the body, #hairloss from #chemotherapy can compound the devastation cancer already wreaks on people both physically and mentally. Some people feel better embracing the way they look in that moment of time and space and have no need for a #wig , but others don’t want their symptoms to be visible. Hair is deeply interconnected with our #femininity , sexuality, vitality, and sense of #self ; losing it, especially when you’re already feeling #sick and #scared , can be incredibly demoralizing. It can be made worse by the feeling that losing your #hair shouldn’t be your big concern. The process of choosing a wig can be an uplifting experience -- a wig can transform how you’re feeling about yourself. Shopping for it can be a moment of fun—real, distracting fun. Here are a few helpful tips to make it fun:
1. Bring friends👯♀️ 2. Set a budget
3. Reserve the right not to wear one👩🏽🎤 4. Consider color and length
5. Fit is everything!! 6. Get a comfortable wig cap -- consider a lace-front wig for comfort and natural appearance
7. Consider itchiness😤
8. Choose the type of hair you want (synthetic, human, or combination)
The pros of choosing a synthetic wig is they last longer, are less expensive, low-maintenance with no need to style. The cons are they can look overly shiny and they can’t be styled with heat.
The pros of choosing human hair are for your wig is they are lighter, feel more natural and breathable, can be styled with heat and colored to your preference, and can be cleaned and conditioned with regular hair products. The cons of choosing human hair are they are more expensive, and need more upkeep.
