✌ Part deux…I am going to show you an RNT(reactive neuromuscular training) technique to help fix leaning to one hip during the squat.

💡 This happens sometimes because it's in our nature to favor one side over another which is normal. This won't cause any pain necessarily but it can cause a muscle imbalance in the long run. The side that you are going to favor will load more internal rotation at the hip.
.
✔ The band should be in front of you because it is going to pull you forward. As you are squatting, your muscles will want to resist that band pulling you forward which cue you to squat back in the center.

💬 Remember that our end goal is to squat without having to think about the placement of our hips. Movement should be natural! Repetition will reinforce movement patterns that is being facilitated with the band.

Limitations in hip flexion and internal rotation range of motion have been implicated as characteristics of hip pathology (Burnett 2014, Clohisy 2009, Sutlive 2008). What does an individual’s hip internal rotation tell us?

Here's how to perform the stretch!

1️⃣ Setup into a standard Pigeon Pose
👉If you don't know how I have a post called "Glute Stretch" you can check out on my profile! 
2️⃣ Cross your arms across your shoulders!
3️⃣ Place your back foot on something that can slide!
👉A workout slider (valslide) works the best, but you can use anything that can slide over whatever surface you are on!
4️⃣ From the starting position, push your back leg back in a straight line. 🔑Try to prevent the back foot from sliding off to the side.
5️⃣ Continue pushing back until you feel a stretch in the glutes/hips!
6️⃣ Now it's time to bring yourself back to the starting position!
7️⃣ Engage your core and you're going to use your front leg to press into the ground. Feel like you're pushing your knee and ankle equally into the ground.  The force you create will help you pull your body back to the starting position.
8️⃣ Repeat!

In today’s 28 day series episode we are building off the post yesterday on squats and showing 4 higher level variations.
We have the overhead, front, high bar, and low bar variations. Moving from left to right we have progressively more hip dominant versions.
A proficient overhead squat will be very vertical, with ideally the belly button up not looking any different than when standing. 
A front squat will have a slight more forward lean due to the placement of the bar on the clavicles.
A high bar back squat will have more forward translation of the torso, entering into more hip flexion. 
A low bar back squat will have the most change in inclination of the torso and most usage of the hips.
If you find yourself wanting to train more hip musculature, it would be in your favor to move towards low bar squats (though you could do any of these still). In contrast, if you find hip flexion bothersome, using front squats or potentially overhead squats would be an option.

🐷A lot of the times when I see people put their leg up to do a hamstring stretch they end up rotating the hip. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but we don't target the hamstrings as well. Make sure to give this little tweak a try!

1️⃣Place the leg on something (bench, table, box, etc.)
2️⃣Keep both legs straight.
3️⃣Make sure the hips are pointing forward!
4️⃣Hinge Forward.

I sent a message to my client asking how she felt post NIS treatment. “Wonderful!!! I feel like my posture has shifted, which is a good thing... generally feel more "in" my body. And all kinds of things in my back and hips that normally hurt when I move don't hurt, what kind of crazy magic do you have lady?!? I need to make another appointment, if that's what you can do in one hour I can only imagine what else you can do.”
