In those 7 years I have encountered and overcome so much physically and mentally. Hospitalizations, injuries, & surgery—just to name a few. But the greatest factor attributed to growth is CONSISTENCY.

Over having the greatest program, over having the greatest food sources and supplements, over the most advanced gym, and over having the greatest teachers.

BE CONSISTENT.

And that overflows to all aspects of our lives. Consistency is the key.

And that’s a wrap for the 2018 Canadian National Powerlifting Championships! This was the first time I lead an entire team going into nationals and I could not be more proud of each and every of my athletes. We finished with 1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze, and 2 fourth places.

@rhondagramz (gold) - Another national title after a 2 year hiatus! By no means was this an easy win. We had some very tough competition and we just barely squeaked by. During this prep, Rhonda re-aggravated her previous SI injury during her final week and we contemplated if we even wanted to compete at all. We managed to isolate the issue and it did not affect her on game day. This also secures our spot for the 2018 IPF World Championships, where Rhonda will be representing Canada in the 47kg weight class. Whether we will compete or not, will be determined after a much needed vacation. .
@storiesnotselfies (bronze) - One of my newest athletes! Nicola and I literally started from scratch for this prep. I had no previous training data from her past and only 8 weeks to gather as much information as possible. This was Nicola’s first competition as a Open in the 52kg weight class and she took on the challenge like a champ. .
@sarahkxie (fourth) - Our second nationals together! Comp PR in squats, deadlift, total, and wilks. You just keep improving year after year! .
@strong_chocolate (fourth) - This guy shook the scene with his massive 240kg squat...@ RPE 8! Lanre left every ounce of performance on the platform yesterday. The final pull would gave us gold, but it just wasn’t there that day. I still blame myself for going 2.5kg heavier than we should have but at the time, I think it was the appropriate call. .
@biggestben10 (silver) - Another new athlete, and great friend! This guy is a tank! Training with 3 hours sleep, missions around the world, you still made it happen! So proud of you brother! This is only the beginning 😈.

Dumbbell Pullover: Chest or Back Exercise?
The difference between the dumbbell pullover exercises that target your chest from the ones that target your lats is the bend in your elbows when you perform a rep. When you want to work on your pecs, keep your elbows in and your arms as straight as you can while doing the exercise. Lower the dumbbell down as far as possible and lift it up the exact same way. When you get to the top of the movement, flex your pecs and keep pumping out reps just like this until you reach your goal.
When you want your dumbbell pullovers to affect your back muscles, slightly flare your elbows and make sure to keep the dumbbell as close to your body as possible, which means your elbows are going to widen even more. Making up for week 3sick/recovering from sickness all week. Finally felt human again and decided to make up for lost time and break back into it. Feels good to move heavy things again. Ran out of a lot of stamina by the time I got to squats and OHP. Makes sense since I was going after heavy singles.

485lb/220kg squat this morning. Most difficult squat of this block but also the heaviest. So I can't complain. Keep moving from here.

Hit the gym straight after work this morning after a long week killed some chest this morning before I start cutting weight in March... s/o to the bro @a_jvmes for the spot and being a great training parter. Ended up hit 275lbs for 8 reps on my third set, 315lbs for 4 reps on my 4th and failed at 355lbs for my last set still a strong attempt. Weighed in this morning at 208lbs. I’ll be going to be cutting starting March 1st trying to drop 30 lbs this year.

Maddie’s #benchpress tips 101:
1) If your butt comes off the seat, you’re probably going too heavy

2) if it feels heavy on your first set but your ego gets in the way, add the weight on anyway

3) if, on your last set, you fail to push the bar up, just roll it down you. However, make sure you have a double chin and look VERY ashamed.

4) take your jumper off and maybe take off some of the weights. Try to stay #humble and try not to lose all sense of self-esteem.
