After having children and being diagnosed with hypothyroidism, I wanted to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle. I started walking and eventually running. After 2 years, I was starting to experience pain in my heel and behind the knees which led me to put running on hold. ✨
Around this time, we moved from San Antonio to Houston and I started feeling sick and unlike myself. After visiting several different doctors, I was diagnosed with Hashimotos Disease and severe Adrenal Fatigue. I struggled with muscle aches and pains among other issues and physical fitness had become a thing of the past. It was then that I decided to make major changes to my diet and started to incorporate a vitamin regimen into my daily routine. I was finally starting to feel better and decided to try running again unfortunately, my body was not fully recovered and not only did my heel and knees hurt, I now had adrenal issue to deal with. ✨
It was then that I was introduced to tennis (on a very minor scale) where I met some great ladies that just wanted to get out, enjoy the weather and have fun. With the fun (and my competitive nature) came a new host of injuries. My heel pain was back and now I was experiencing shoulder pain and tennis elbow.
Coincidentally, a tennis friend asked me to join her for a Pilates class and I was instantly hooked! I loved the fluidity of the motions, the stretching and the mind-body connection. I noticed changes in my body after the first few classes and my tennis ailments seemed to be disappearing.
After taking Pilates classes for several months I knew I wanted to take the leap and get certified to teach. I have experienced firsthand what Pilates can do for your mind and body. It doesn’t matter your age or where you are in your physical walk, there is always a place for you in Pilates and I want to be able to share that with you!

#FunctonalFriday : This week's workout is by the pool, this process you can workout anywhere.
1. Walking Lunges: 15 each x 3 sets. (Tip: go only as low as you can maintaining a neutral spine and a 90/90 lunge)
2. Incline Pushup: 15 reps x 3 sets. (Tip: maintain a straight line from your head to your feet, engage your core)
3. Triceps Dips with Hip Extension: 15 reps x 3 sets. (Tip: Try not to shrug your shoulders to your ears and extend the hip between reps)
4. Plank with alternate leg raise: 10 each x 3 sets (Tip: engage your core and try to keep your pelvis stable as you elongate and lift your leg)
5. Squat Jacks: 20 reps x 3 sets. (Tip: Stay low as you and get the heartrate pumping 😉) @shaaziaq hope the tips help 😘

"day 1 of @momentumfest challenge: 🌬BREATH 🌬 “breathing is the first act of life and the last. our very life depends on it.” -joseph pilates 🌬 i begin + end almost every pilates session - classes i teach/personal practice - by encouraging clients/myself to bring awareness to the breath...to center + connect mind to body...to bring attention to the present moment + establish a clear beginning + ending to the practice - and here i am demonstrating that - with deep breaths + spinal articulation in cat/cow to begin, and a body scan while running followed by three deep inhalations/exhalations to center + balance mind + body to end. 🌬 don’t forget to breathe, y’all! 🌬
If you’re struggling, or stuck, or maybe just feeling kind of lost lately, take a deep breath and let this sink in: You’re exactly where you‘re supposed to be.
Every experience, good or bad, has purposefully shaped you, and brought you precisely to this spot. You might not see it yet, but life has bigger plans for you. You will get there in your own time, and it will all make sense - even the tough stuff. No...ESPECIALLY the tough stuff.
